It all starts with government though. There is a documentary on Netflix about this very topic called "Money For Nothing". Check it out. The free market economists predicted the housing bubble's bursting as far back as 2001. You call for the jailing of citizens but when government causes problems or breaks the law, nobody pays, EVER.

I didn't get out to see it in the theater (or much of anything else this summer), and I haven't had the chance to watch the Blu-ray. I would assume that whether one likes this or not depends on how one responds to Guy Ritchie's movies in general.

On a separate, off-topic note, I was in my local Wally World to pick up a copy of Sicario (I'd first stopped in Target, but they'd sold out; turns out it was 3 bucks cheaper at Wally anyway) and noticed Bone Tomahawk. To be honest, reading the description, it sounds like a variation of Cormac McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian, which I didn't not enjoy in the least. Still, the comments about it here made me give it a blind-buy shot. May the curse of Ray Jackson come down on you people if I don't like it!

That said, the nicest thing I could say about Man From Uncle was it had attractive people in it and good special effects...I'm not sure I would rate that a rave review.

San Andreas was another movie with attractive people...and spectacular special effects! But again, I'm not sure I would recommend a movie on that basis....
Fair enough. I wouldn't give them a "rave" review, and they certainly aren't high art, but I found plenty to enjoy out of them. I don't need drugs to appreciate them.

It would help. I don't think MFU is as zany as Sherlock Holmes or Snatch or anything, but it's definitely a movie to see more for the character banter than for action.

I had an adverse reaction to Bone Tomahawk compared to everyone here. It was good flick to maybe watch with a few drinking buddies but don't think I could sit through it if I were to watch it again at home on my own. I think the term "popcorn flick" is apt. I just had to see Tangerine. While admittedly it wasn't amazing, I think that fact it was made on a damn iPhone is. For what came out in th finished product, I was pretty well stunned. I really like the small segment where he blended a classical piece with some electronic music, it went so well with the film I think it should have been used more than just the one scene.

Great choices and welcome

I liked Hateful 8 way more than Django. I just can't get over Jamie Foxx. Regardless of QT's "Historical trilogy" imo Inglorious is the strongest of the three.

Tangerine visually is cool no doubt (shot on all iPhones impressive) just felt flat maybe it was the acting, I laughed afew times but the taxi driver sub-plot seemed too cliche? Idk.

Tangerine was on most critics top 10 lists. I read like ten lists. I think the #1s were:

Mad max 4
Carol 2
Spotlight 2
Assassin 1

Assassin seems like a future CC movie going by the trailer...

FROM RIALTO PICTURES: RAN 4K RESTORATION TRAILER.

StudioCanal's official 4K restoration poster is included below.

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=18222
Quote:
Rialto Pictures has sent us a brand new trailer for the recent 4K restoration of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's classic film Ran (1985), starring Tatsuya Nakadai, Akira Terao, Jinpachi Nezu, Daisuke Ryu, and Mieko Harada. Ran opens Friday February 26 at New York's Film Forum.

The restoration: The film has been restored based on a 4K scan by the French laboratory Éclair, under StudioCanal's supervision. Based on an original negative, the majority of the restoration work was done manually, frame by frame, with the film's Director of Photography, Mr. Ueda, approving the color grading. (Technical information courtesy of StudioCanal).

Synopsis: With Ran, legendary director Akira Kurosawa reimagines Shakespeare's King Lear as a singular historical epic set in sixteenth-century Japan. Majestic in scope, the film is Kurosawa's late-life masterpiece, a profound examination of the folly of war and the crumbling of one family under the weight of betrayal, greed, and the insatiable thirst for power.

I knew that there was a reason why I recently upgraded my 32" 1080p television for a 49" 4K UHD television. I hope that this shows up on our shores soon.

I bought the bluray this past Nov and while I thought the picture was okay, it obviously didn't look anywhere near as good as the trailer shows. Would consider a double dip if the extras are good.

Edit: Youtube info page says it opens in New York on Feb 26. I would guess art house theaters would get a chance to show it too in March, maybe?

One that would really make my day is Mothra. Had to get a copy from a triple-feature set. But really, all of these kaiju movies should come to Blu-Ray in some form or another.
Matango (also directed by Ishiro Honda) seems like it'd be right up Criterion's alley. Really good movie, too.

Might be worth a trip downstate. I wonder if they'll be screening it at TIFF in Toronto?

Thank you, will be checking it today or tomorrow, I have that on my watchlist from some time but wasn't even aware it is from the same director as Phoenix, BTW I see you gave your highest recommendation for 2011 film Tyrannosaur, finally watched that and have to fully agree, brutal but totally engaging movie.

I'm intrigued. Would also be a blind buy and I'll likely pick it up before the next B&N sale. If you've not read it, check out the review on dvdbeaver. The contrast in presentations between the Arrow and Criterion releases is startling. But looking at one or two of the screen caps, not necessarily entirely in Criterion's favour.

Their main screen is a bit small but its a great theater overall.
Place was almost a second home when I was there.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I just watched Dog Day Afternoon for the first time. Awesome movie and spectacular blu ray disc. Did anyone else know that the bank manager's name is Mulvaney? As in, John Mulvaney.

All right, my top 10 of 2015:

1) Room
2) Sicario
3) Mad Max: Fury Road
4) Spotlight
5) Brooklyn
6) Ex_Machina
7) American Sniper
8) Phoenix

Leaving the last 2 spots open. I haven't watched bridge of spies, Carol or end of the road yet.

I really hope we see a future Criterion release of RAN in 4K.

I'm pretty sure Tatsuya Nakadai is my favorite Japanese actor.
