I gave systems like yours a try before, separating by category, animated, silent, etc., but I've always found it easiest to find what I'm looking for just by putting them in alphabetical order. I say just do whatever works for you!

I do have my Criterions separated because I like the uniformity of the packaging but I do not have them arranged by number, just alphabetically. Which brings me to my dilemma, do I arrange El Norte in the "E" section or "N" section? With my English movies, anything with "The" in the title is placed by the first letter of the next word. Help please

I have the majority of my collection arranged alphabetically by title, with Blus and DVDs separated completely. But I diverge from this scheme in certain instances where it makes sense to me. For example, I have all my Bond films together under 'B', and a couple instances where I group by director (e.g. Kubrick and Kurosawa). It's quirky and inconsistent, but it feels "right" to me. I just can't seem to divorce Kubrick's works from the man himself. His films seem to belong together on my shelves more than they belong within their respective genre or alphabetic listings. For reasons I can't explain or defend, I don't feel the same about other directors and their works. Although I equally admire Scorsese, I have no problem filing his films alphabetically. My wife hates it because she can never find anything.

If anyone is interested, Criterion put up a video on their facebook page of an "unboxing" of the Von sternberg boxset. Haven't had a chance to watch it, but it seems like a cool idea and they are gauging reaction to it over there, possibly something to add to the mix of teases.

In regards to the organization discussion, I have a seperate shelf unit for my criterion's. I mix the Blus and DVDs and arrange them by spine number. With my other blus, I keep everythin in abc order and split up by movies in blu cases, then digibooks, then tv shows. I'm a stickler for abc order. All my CDs and LP's in abc order too. I am at a point with the criterion's that the spine numbers outweigh the alphabet, but every once in a while, that abc'ing wants to happen.

Nice. I'll watch it, due to the films in the video.

Has everyone failed to see that Blu_Beast never explicitly stated that those discs were acquired at a Barnes & Noble during the current sale? It's possible, but you guys are assuming until he replies, right?

Picked up my in store ordered "Secret of the Grain" at B&N (got to use a $5.00 coupon too!) Now with A Christmas Tale (which I'm expecting in the mail) MY CC BLU COLLECTION IS COMPLETE! (so far...) Did pick up a few DVD's: "Hopscotch", fearing it might go OOP since it's a Studio Canal title. and "Stranger Than Paradise", which I consider a super deal since it contains "Permanent Vacation" as well.

I decided I wasn't done just yet with this sale and made my last purchase seriously...this is it.

Hehe...No more buying I mean it! (Anybody want a peanut)

This time around, I decided to make the 1 hr. drive to the closest B&N and utilize these instore coupons (still peeved that there are no coupons for members online that we can use with this sale). I figure I had this membership card, I should be taking advantage of these instore coupons.

Purchased "Bigger than Life", "The Red Shoes" and man...I hope made the right decision, I was going to get "Harakiri" but I chose "The Furies" instead. Mainly because I get a feeling "Harakiri" may get a Blu-ray release and it was an earlier Criterion release. But "The Furies" also seemed to have more features and this attractive big box.

But...$11.67 for a Blu-ray using the $5 off coupon. I can easily imagine those of you who have been going in every day and getting it for that price. I used the other $5 off $50 and thus everything came to $44 ($47.99 overall).

Also, decided to pick up the "Eclipse Series 15: Travels with Hiroshi Shimizu" yesterday.

Damn...and here I was trying to keep everything under $300 time this around. Fail.

Pondering whether or not to buy em, but if the quality isn't good, I'm better off just sticking with my DVDs. Or if anyone has seen them and has an opinion, please let me know.
DVD-Basen is an excellent resource for searching out reviews of international DVD/Blu-ray releases.
