I could see how he could be considered a definitely questionable choice.

But to my mind, the Before series, plus Boyhood, plus Slacker, plus Dazed and Confused, plus Fast Food Nation, plus Waking Life, plus A Scanner Darkly ...

But really, the Before series alone is almost enough for him to be on my list.

He's done some great films (his newer looks rather questionable but I will put that down to bad marketing) - but I am still let down by how poor Boyhood is! I still haven't given it a re watch though...

... Screw it - I will have a viewing of Boyhood now and see how I feel, I did have a bad experience with the cinema that day anyway so may have put me in a bad mood. (I still think certain moments were too rushed though and the acting questionable at time lol)

It's on my list, though.

As I am renting Sicario from iTunes, I will say this: On the basis of Enemy and Prisoners, I'm very curious to see it, and to see where Villeneuve's career takes him. Because those two movies were amazing.

Have both the Arrows, I guess I meant so the film has even more widespread audience. As we both know even though they are region free even some folks here will miss them, if CC released them in U.S. they would have more eyes on them. And I did fumble the title, long day and I've been doing a ton of reading on Czech films after rekindling my interest through Dragon's Return not too long ago. Closely Observed Trains was just the first thing that popped into my head! I like Menzel's work quite a bit. A revisit of Capricious Summer should be in order for me soon.

Coens brothers?? William Friedkin and Spike Lee, anyone? They each made three masterpieces IMO:

The French Connection
The Exorcist
Sorcerer
+To Live and Die in L.A., great film

Spike Lee really? He made a couple good films, but not made anything exciting or worth mentioning since - I wouldn't put him alongside the filmmakers already listed. Personally, I will never forgive him for touching Oldboy was a very embarrassing remake/adaptation .

Despite being loved and equally disliked, Wes Anderson, he definitely is an auteur and many are inspire by him and he's made some pretty solid films

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Wood-man. Almost 50 years of interesting film-making. Granted, the last 20 years have been hit or miss, but overall, a substantial body of work that still entertains.

1. Mike Leigh
2. Catherine Breillat
3. Clint Eastwood

A lot of great directors out there, some of them still productive in their 60's, 70's and beyond.
