You can usually find used copies of "Army of Shadows" on Amazon for 50-60 bucks. Obviously, a lot to pay for a used copy, but probably the cheapest you can find for that particular disc. Once in a while, new copies will come down under 60 bucks. With "Leon Morin, Priest", you can often get it for 30-35 bucks used on Amazon. Those two discs are easier to track down for non-absurd prices than the other OOP Criterion BDs.

I can imagine. I've already decided that my ceiling is $40 like new or better. Region-free is looking better all the time.

edit: I remember I was very disappointed when I found that the TCM release hadn't had subtitles, otherwise i would have bought that one.

I don't remember hating any Criterion cover.
Even if it is a bad cover, at least it has a character and is not one of those generic photoshopped ones that are on big studios releases!

About a year ago, a third party seller on Amazon was selling "Army of Shadows" for 40 bucks and "Leon Morin" for 35 bucks. I picked both up from this guy in mint condition. Probably one of the more thrilling moments of my movie collecting history. Both are fantastic films, but "Army of Shadows" is a true masterpiece.

Those are great deals.

It makes me giddy to think that, after shipping costs, I essentially paid about $13 for a mint condition copy of Army of Shadows.

Pretty sure I sold every OOP Criterion sans The Man Who Fell to Earth ($65?) and The Third Man (because I'm keeping it), for $40 or less.

Hell, I'm currently selling Howards End with the corrected disc for $40 but nobody wants to bite.

I have to think those sellers are depending on some really wealthy collector to just not give a shit about prices. All it takes is one I guess.
