Yeah, the chances are 1,000,000 to 1.

I seriously doubt that any film that doesn't even make it into Criterion's mainline with extra features is going to be released on any high-definition format by Criterion in our life time. Maybe, some of those films will be released by other companies (i.e. foreign markets) on blu-ray but not by Criterion.

From wikipedia:

"Eclipse from the Criterion Collection is a brand for a line of DVD film series released by the Criterion Collection. It debuted on March 27, 2007.[1] The brand was created to produce budget-priced, high-quality DVD editions of hard-to-find films. The DVDs are released in boxed sets that typically contain between two to seven films across and focus on a specific film director. Future sets will also focus on themes. Typically, they are released monthly. In order to keep prices low, the films do not receive the same degree of remastering nor any of the special features that have became associated with Criterion Collection titles."

Now what do you think?

I read the review but that didn't do much for me either.
By Brakhage is not for everyone, but it is the definitive collection of films from arguably the greatest experimental filmmaker America has ever had. If you're into that kind of thing, it's worth every penny, particularly at the price in this sale.

Just finished the audio commentary and the deleted scenes. If the price on Amazon reflects this DVD, then you get a big bang for your buck.

Nicholas Ray had a small part, but played it with a lot of emotion.

The audio commentary was quite decent. My wife says that Wim's voice makes her drowsy (hey...he's a mellow guy ). It would have been nice to have heard more of Dennis Hopper, but it was very welcome. There seems to have been a very nice friendship and respect that they showed for each other. Wim lost a couple of "friends" that were great directors.

I actually did not get them from B&N. Not to be an ass, but I thought that was obvious. I was just stating that I actually found these. I actually found them right here in the Blu-ray.com forum, I made a trade for them

I pretty much agree with everything you've said here. The price was the only reason I was tempted to buy it. I knew if I passed it up on this sale I'd probably never buy it. But after watching several of his short films on YouTube, it was obvious to me that I didn't get much from his style. Don't get me wrong - the last thing I want to say is it's not good; just that it's not "my thing".

I watched Stagecoach last night and I was surprised. I was under the impression that it was a "heavy" drama, but it is actually a fun film. The cinematography is great. I loved the shots of the wagon running through the valley. One more thing the actor playing Doc Boone was fantastic and Wayne (never liked him before) was very likable as Ringo.

Thumbs up The 400 Blows

Finally got around to watching my criterion copy of the 400 Blows. I had seen the film like 10 years ago but am happy I got to see it again in true criterion fashion.

A true masterwork movie. There has been a lot of discussion and criticism about the open ending. But I don't think the film is open at all at the end because the film is not primarily about what will happen to Antoine but is instead what has happened to Antoine in his life and how society has molded him into the so called juvenile. Antoine really is a good kid who does some stupid things like all kids do but he is a victim of circumstance - a child wrapped up in his home life and school who is forced into a corner corner which results in a rejection of society he lives in and is driven to make choices which in his young mind are correct solution to his problems.

You really can relate with Antoines world. Great acting by the parents and boy. Really is a deeply tragic and powerful film.

Whats the consensus on Science is Fiction? The set seems pretty cool. Is it more conventional or more avant garde? Either is fine, I'm just curious as to what to expect.

Also, I just saw La Jetee and was blown away, would Sans Soleil be up my alley?

Yeah, if I had to name 4 of my fav American directors of all time off the top of my head, it would be Dennis Hopper, Nicholas Ray, John Cassavetes, and Buster Keaton. And funny, they all have actor credits, so I feel are more character driven filmmakers, which works out great.

Science is Fiction is like on my top 5 to go back and buy films. I don't know much about it either, but it interests me so much. I don't know why.

Just finished streaming Playtime via Netflix and really enjoyed it. It took me a good 30-45 minutes before I warmed up to it, but by the time the apartment scene came around I was really into it. The restaurant scene was fantastic as well.

I wasn't planning on getting this one during the B&N sale (already picked up 6 and going back for a final 2 tomorrow), but I may just get it as well.
