help me with the name of this film, I'm pretty sure it's something that Criterion would release. It's an Italian film about a poor old pensioner and his dog, I saw it on TV many years back and thought it was a very moving film, any ideas of the film I'm trying to think of?

yeah for sure de Sica's "Umberto D".
great film!
well the good news BillyJack is that it is already a Criterion dvd release;
whether it ever gets the blu release is anyone's guess.
I'd say at least a 50/50 chance.
it's a pretty famous film from a legendary director, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see it get the blu tx one day.

Thanks a million, will have to do an online order since nobody has it in stock in my area.

I have no doubt that Criterion will release this movie next year on blu. It is definatly one of the more popular titles in their collection.

I picked up Science is Fiction during this sale, and I'm more impressed by it than the Brakhage set, would rather have had it on Blu. Highly recommended, though the Yo La Tengo addition doesn't add much, so if you are a fan and thinking of buying just for that, I'd pass. What amazingly wonderful images though, the first two discs are amazing, and I haven't made it through the 3rd yet.

I hope not soon, since I finally just broke down and bought it during the sale! Of course that is how it will work out in the end...

Default I need more!

I really need to add more Criterion releases to my Blu Ray collection. Right now all I have is "The Seventh Seal" and "The Magician" pre-ordered (yes, I am a huge Ingmar Berman fan!)

Too late! **edit** my bad its still on for tonight,

So how was Secret of the Grain? That one and everlasting moments were two I held out on buying during the B&N sale.

By the way watched Vampyre last night. What a experience. Too bad this is the best footage that has been found to date. Most of it looked very good.

Ordered 2 replacement cases a week ago and still no shipping confirmation. *Sigh* Oh well, at least I got paid today, which means I was able to upgrade my iPhone and pre-order LOST The Complete Series! That, however, means no more Criterion B&N for a long time lol.

Final haul

[Show spoiler]
Blu-ray:

The Leopard
Crumb
Everlasting Moments
Black Narcissus
Red Desert
The Red Shoes
The Secret of the Grain
Bottle Rocket
The Man Who Fell to Earth
In the Realm of the Senses
Close-Up

DVD:

The Human Condition
Dillinger is Dead
Solaris

Not bad at all.

Snagged the last copy of Everlasting Moments at my local Barnes & Noble.

• Complete Monterey Pop Festival, The [Blu-ray]
• Everlasting Moments [Blu-ray]
• Paris, Texas [Blu-ray]
• Vivre sa vie [Blu-ray]
• Walkabout [Blu-ray]
• Wings of Desire [Blu-ray]

I am done.

I have two empty spots on my shelf left. Damn I need to start saving for a new rack.

P.S. just in case anyone didn't hear, Crumb on blu-ray is available at Best Buy, but only in store. It leaked early. It's 29.99 right now.

I probably would prefer MoC's "M" also, but I'm staying region A locked. Else I would be checking it out. Can't say that Criterion bats a thousand when it comes to their video transfers, particularly find their use of windowboxing rather appalling, and some of their color (and/or contrast) manipulations have been rather suspicious, but all in all, I'm addicted and have enjoyed most of what I've watched.

Criterion cant beat MOCs release of "M" anyway, because MOCs has included the british version of the film, filmed simontainously with the german.

Got a question for all of you. Some of my Criterion-titles has a problem with my player/TV. When I watch some scenes, especially scenes with a huge frame, landscapes and/or a lot of people my image becomes blurry and really looks bad. Its a lot of noise and looks like a DVD or something. Films that I have experienced that with is: Paris, Texas, Kagemusha and Stagecoach. Also, in the hospital scene in Planet Terror (R2) the same problem occured. My other Criterion-titles works all fine (they are all black/white btw. Although i suspect my copy of Seventh Seal has the same problem). Whats my problem?

Must only be regional. I checked three different Best Buys in Northern Virginia and no Crumb.

I'm in Texas. But someone else here confirmed seeing it at their Best Buy. Must be a luck of the draw thing.

That's where you're wrong. The Criterion blu-ray does include the British version of "M"... the DVD does not, though.
