It seems your point is lost on me otherwise, unless you're just championing the CC brand/thread and don't think knowledge should be shared about releases abroad here, or that CC themselves aren't keen to those releases. I'd imagine the "irrelevance" is quite the opposite, and I'm sure in cases like Valerie and Marketa, CC observed copies from Second Run. What restorations and releases happen abroad are totally relevant to the CC here in the U.S. I'd like to assume most of us are film fans first, and a good percentage of us are interested in the other labels releases if not just to predict what may be coming on CC's schedule. Let alone to get a better release or save a little coin. If you simply meant "a label releasing a title in a different region is irrelevant because CC is releasing the title in their own region", I get what you're saying but it seemed strongly worded!

I think it is fine to share knowledge about other region releases since there are so many that we don't always know that some movie already got a release, specially in this thread, I know that in the big picture, not many people import, but here we are talking about big movie fans, there is a higher chance someone has a multi region player.

But still I don't think it's right to assume everyone should be happy with that, and that it is worthless now if someone decides to release it in region A.

There are tons of great releases on the UK alone, and the only problem is deciding if Criterion might release those titles sometime in the future to avoid double dipping in case their release is better.

My point is that everyone has their own reasons for whether they choose to invest in a region-free player, or even simply purchase region-A-playable titles from outside the US. And they shouldn't have to justify their reasons. And their business as customers shouldn't be ignored by Criterion in deciding to release or not release a title simply because other customers choose to import.

This whole specific exchange started when someone mentioned that Criterion shouldn't bother releasing Late Autumn because there's a perfectly good release from Japan. And I shouldn't have to point out that Japan is Region A, which means that release should be playable by anyone in the US (and therefore your "fixing" my comment to make it about what I am not able to play is meaningless). I don't have an objection to sharing information about what may be available elsewhere, and I wasn't complaining about that.

My point is that Criterion shouldn't base their decisions about what titles to release on what's been released in other markets. And that's because their customer base isn't solely made up of people who are fanatic enough about film to become region-free and import from everywhere around the world. I've seen people suggest that people who don't go region-free aren't "real" film devotees, and I reject that notion, just as I would reject the notion that if one was a "real" film devotee, one wouldn't even bother with home video at all, and would only see films projected in a theater (nota bene: I haven't seen anyone make that argument, though I have seen people make the analogous argument that live performances are the only way to be able to truly appreciate music).

And here I am just hating on the idea of region locking in general... more so that the UK and US don't even share the same region coding.

I just watched it myself, and I really enjoyed it. Now having seen it, I think the cover is perfect.

I'm really looking forward to what Criterion does with The Grand Budapest Hotel cover whenever they finally get that into their collection. Even though I have it already on normal Blu-Ray, when Criterion releases that one, I'm throwing my wallet at them.

I think Moonrise Kingdom is the first Wes Anderson film that Criterion didn't make the cover art look like a drawing.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about people not knowing what you actually said. If someone edits someone else's comment and acts like they didn't, people who read the original comment will call them out. There is also a little button in the quote that'll take you right to where the original comment is.

I do get where it is a big annoyance though.

kuro_sawa wasn't "fixing" my post in that he was actually replacing my original post with a "fixed" version. My original post is still intact. It's kinda sorta like colorizing a film. Having a colorized version doesn't mean the original black-&-white version no longer exists. My statement that the fixed version was "meaningless" was just that...in the context of that particular argument it didn't have a real point. I didn't have a problem with his approach to making his point, just the point itself.

It is very tempting to fix your post for you, hariseldon, but I like you and don't want to feel your wrath. Jokes aside, if I offended anyone I can delete the post. We're all pretty laid back and know each other here, and I meant no harm to jayembee, whose opinion I also appreciate. That's why I shut my trap! Apologies

So getting back on topic, I just watched the trailer for Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom. It was... well... interesting? The entire trailer was just shock value with naked people being treated horribly.

Anyone actually watch the film? Is it all just shock value or is the film actually worth watching?

Thank you, I knew that. I have about 30 DigiBooks, and nearly that many DigiPacks, between Criterion, and non-Criterion releases for films like Taxi Driver, Schindler's List, etc. I just had a major brain fart when I made that post. I realized the mistake I made, and corrected myself in post #14321.

I wish Amazon would do this more often. I grabbed both Throne of Blood, which I received in a few days, and Harakiri, which I am still waiting on.

Wes Anderson's brother did the illustrations for most of his Criterion covers. I think the Moonrise Kingdom cover looks amazing, but I am kind of curious why they didn't commission him for it.

I also wish so too. Last time I checked, Inside Llewyn Davis was up in the $40 range since they ran out of copies to sell. I love Amazon but damn, the only time a film actually becomes cheap is when the base price drops (which never happens with Criterion) other then that, you have to get really lucky.

I don't know either but the cover really does suit the film. It'll stand out from the rest of the Wes Anderson Criterions though.

Inside Llewyn Davis Blu-ray REVIEW

The new conversation with Guillermo del Toro and the Coens and the new audio commentary are a good enough reason to strongly recommend this release. Both are simply terrific

Unfortunately I think that's the only option at this point if you want to retain your honor.

I'm sorry bro.

I didn't want it to end this way.

But I promise you, the stories of your glorious death will be legendary.

And in that sense...you will be immortal.
