They handled the release of last year's The Messenger, with Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson. I don't believe it was numbered, but that was a great disc and great transfer. The only reason I haven't purchased it yet, is because I've been waiting for a good deal. It's certainly worth checking out, though.

I just started an Oscilloscope Laboratories thread, hope you guys can chime in.

And the comment from Criterion in regards to Yauch starting his own company:

Adam Yauch is a founding member of the Beastie Boys. Recently he created a new division of his company Oscilloscope Laboratories called Oscilloscope Pictures (oscilloscopepictures.com) for the sole purpose of distributing films. He even hired two guys from ThinkFilm to come over to his new company. At first we were a little concerned that Adam intended to compete with Criterion, but then we thought it over and, honestly, we have been doing this for a long time and are not threatened by Adam’s new company. The groundbreaking DVD The Beastie Boys Video Anthology is currently available from the Criterion Collection. So right there that proves we have the upper hand.

Speaking of Dennis Hopper, there's a film in which he has role that I've wanted to see for years now.

Orson Welles' THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND.

Beatrice needs to step aside and let Captain Ascot cut the film (according to Welles' memo) and release it to art houses.

After the art house run it would naturally hit the Criterion Collection

Last I heard, I thought they were going to show the footage in this past Cannes. I don't know what happened.

I have a few of their movies, all are in great packaging and are handled very well as far as transfers and extras, not to mention all very good movies...

4 titles I own:
The Messenger Blu-ray (yes its numbered)
Wendy and Lucy
Front Runners
Tell Them Anything You want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak

I rally want to find these titles:
Not Your Typical Big Foot Movie
The Thorn In The Heart
Gunnin For That #1 Spot Blu-ray

Will this be the end of the Barnes & Noble Criterion sales?

I honestly don't think Barnes and Noble will change much even with new owners. I am sure they will still keep up with what works for their company i.e. monthly promotions etc.

[Show spoiler]I still don't like downloadable books what so ever and I kind of frown upon downloading movies and music for the most part. The days of really looking over a great album are all but almost gone. I want the real thing in my hand with cover art etc. a file doesn't excite me at all.

I will say even if NOOK was selling like hot cakes etc Barnes & Noble would still be shooting their stores in the foot. I know they have to move along with the times but at the same time they are gonna loose customers who browse for books in the store. In the long run will just close down stores.

That is my rant. Used Spoiler to block message I don't want to use the Criterion board up for the topic so much.

I wish you were right about it not changing much, but you're not. Well, at least in regards to its focus and store design. I went to a book signing two weeks ago and had a talk with the manager. They cut in half their fiction section and are filling it with a huge Nook display and e-book section. Then they took out another large section of the store to put in a hands-on kids zone. Mind you that the entire back of the store was already a kids zone. The lady said they will be focusing more on school children and e-books.

You're right about the coupons and other general things--those def won't change.

For me it's frustrating with UPS (Or Prestige) because I live in an apartment so they won't deliver unless someone is coming or going at the time of the delivery.

So I took them out of the equation and got a PO Box so Amazon has to deliver via USPS. I can now cancel prime because it's superfluous.

I agree, I prefer to have an actual book in my hand when I'm reading. I spend enough time looking at a computer screen during the day. Plus, I like the look of a full bookshelf.

I think the next B&N sale will be the last one. I'd love to eat my words though.

Either way, I'm going to start getting a wishlist together now.
