I've decided it's finally time to stop holding my breath.

I guess the company's too busy honoring George Washington and other former presidents to throw a few releases up online.

I am sure many here would like some other standalone releases, but I would prefer those to be relegated to suddenly appear on their store like the recent Music and Hitchcock boxsets, there is really nothing new there.

The Manchurian Candidate Blu-ray REVIEW

A very fine new 4K master. Also, the audio has been remastered.

Pro-B

p.s.
The Emigrants/The New Land is next.

Yes, I would like it too!
I wouldn't purchase the European versions because they seem worse.
Otherwise, I don't have region problem.

I love the Criterion Demy set but the standalone disc available in the UK is very good too. Lots of extra features, including Agnes Varda's excellent documentary on the film, and a solid transfer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I really hope Dr.Strangelove is not released. The Sony blu-ray is excellent. I'm not sure where the rumor began.

From the New Year's drawing.

It's from the new year's drawing, I still hope is The Exterminating Angel, but why did they need to use that iconic man in a bomb to depict it makes this questionable.

You don't see the difference?
In that particular comparison the UK one of course. The grain is all smeared.

Yeah, I'm not buying it. It's a stretch comparable to "A Raisin in the Sun" from a few years ago.

I would much prefer The Exterminating Angel as Dr. Strangelove already has a great Blu release and I'm on a serious Bunuel kick right now.

It seems lately Criterion has decided it is better to release their own Blu-ray versions of titles already on Blu-ray than upgrade the DVD titles that so many of us have been waiting years for them to release on Blu-ray. The fact that many of these titles are available from MOC and others in Region B, and the fact that Criterion seems to have lost any sense of urgency regarding upgrades, is what will make me finally get off my arse and go region free.

It is. But also OOP. Besides, Strangelove is Criterion worthy.

It is a clue for both films, which is very common in the New Year's drawings.

Especially if they can include the extras from their laserdisc edition that never made it to any of Sony's various releases.

There are so many movies Criterion could upgrade, movies I'd really like to get from them on Blu-ray instead of having to import/buy a region free player:

The Magic Flute
The Passion of Joan of Arc
Hamlet
Nights of Cabiria
Ordet
Andrei Rublev

Just to name a few. Other films that have no Blu-ray release that are long overdue, like The Magnificent Ambersons, would be welcome additions.

Each time they release something individually that has already been issued as a larger set, it's an opportunity missed.

OOP, yet readily available for anybody who wants to buy it. OOP, in and of itself, is not enough justification for an additional release, especially when there are so many other classics that have not had even one release on the best current format.
