(Actually, I keep re-checking the Criterion page for In a Lonely Place, just to make sure that I didn't just daydream about the announcement.)
She had an interesting relationship with Nicholas Ray.

...and with his son.

I know that Gloria Grahame had a controversial life, to say the least, but I still love watching her in the old films noir. She's still my girl. She just melts the screen in every scene she's in.

I'm more of a Barbara Stanwyck man myself.

I like the way that you think.

I love how Stanwyck was purposely not "hot" in Double Indemnity for the purposes of the character. She's got that wig, and she's got that lame-sleazy look of a woman who's trying too hard. It's such a great observation of how normal guys can get caught up in the strangest sort of woman at the wrong times.

FANTASTIC month.

In A Lonely Place is an absolute must, as is The Player. I had no idea Criterion had this one.

The Wenders films I've been aching to see for a long time, and I was kicking myself for missing Alice and Kings at the retrospective (Wrong Move wasn't ready during the NYC run of the films).

And I'll check out The Naked Island, because why not?

I still think she's pretty hot in Double Indemnity--bad wig and all.

...I would be honored to be set up and used by a woman of her caliber.

Some absolutely stellar new releases so far in 2016. Gilda, In a Lonely Place, Lady Snowblood, The Kid, I Knew Her Well, Oshima, Yang, Wenders, Troell, Shindo, Frankenheimer......my cup runeth over.

But is Bicycle Thieves the only upgrade so far after five months of 2016 announcements? Wow.

Bicycle Thieves is one helluva a title to upgrade, so there is that.

I would like to be used and set up by Jane Greer's character, Kathie, in Out of the Past. She's so beautiful, but, on the inside, she's just a good-for-nothing lying rat.

Soundgarden would probably refer to her as a "pretty noose."

From the split-second that Robert Mitchum first sees her, though, he knows that he is doomed, and we know that we are doomed in turn.

[Show spoiler]Actually, Robert Mitchum's Jeff Markham knows that he's doomed from the split second that he sees Joe Stefanos at his station at the beginning of the movie. That's part of what makes this film so great. He sees the writing on the wall right off the bat.

That's when you know you've found someone really special.

...a man could live his whole life and never meet a woman like that.

You can just imagine my thoughts concerning the recent Twilight Time artwork for Where the Sidewalk Ends.

I loathe, despise, and repudiate it. Thoroughly. However, I'm going to hold my nose and order at least two copies.

Yeah, that chapped my tail as well. I'm still eagerly awaiting the moment when that Blu-ray arrives at my doorstep, though.

She was also pretty good in Oklahoma as the girl who couldn't say "no" and in It's a Wonderful Life as, well, a girl who couldn't say "no".

I'm an Ava Gardner guy. Just seeing her sitting on the bed in The Killers.

Just did a list based on my spreadsheet of the CC titles that have yet to have a review on the site (save for a few of the more recent titles):

Les Blank: Always a Pleasure
Gates of Heaven/Vernon, Florida
Hoop Dreams
Code Unknown
Aparajito
Apur Sansar
Don't Look Back
Burroughs: The Movie

Seems there is less love for documentaries, but on the whole I don't blame Svet, those are the harder to get on the mood for, and seems he is the only one doing the reviews of this plus all the great UK stuff plus France, as great as the job sounds for cinephiles this still seems quite a daunting task I wonder if he still can catch up on the Years best theatrical releases.
