Someone posted this list over the Eureka thread: http://hollywoodclassics.com/pdf/Pri...DCP%20list.pdf
Not sure how to access it from their website, but seems it is kept up to date with the same url, so it is a nice resource to keep bookmarked to see which titles have proper sources ready that might be released in blu-ray in the future. Some interesting titles there: BLOW-UP 1966 Warner Bros. FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX 1965 Fox GREGORY’S GIRL 1980 Independent KNIFE IN THE WATER 1962 Independent OX-BOW INCIDENT, THE (4K) 1943 Fox PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET 1953 Fox SUMMERTIME (aka SUMMER MADNESS) 1955 Independent TWO FOR THE ROAD (4K) 1967 Fox YOUNG MR. LINCOLN 1939 Fox ZABRISKIE POINT 1970 Warner Bros. Last edited by pedromvu; 02-20-2016 at 12:47 AM. |

The most obvious being this, but there are other similar images/homages. Vertigo isn't in 12 Monkeys by accident. |

You're not alone. I saw it several years back and thought it was a snoozer. Warren Beatty mumbled his way through the whole film. I might give it another chance once on blu-ray.

Would you like a new car horn? Doorbell? A loud one that sounds like the car's horn in "Il Sorpasso?" This may be it:
http://www.hornwarehouse.com/melodyhorns/il-sorpasso There are only three horns, so it probably only plays three notes. |

The New Land Blu-ray REVIEW
![]() Phenomenal films and a great set from Criterion. It will have a reserved spot on my Top 10 list at the end of the year. ![]() ![]() Let's hope that Criterion will also manage to license and produce a similar release of Elia Kazan's America America. ![]() Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 02-20-2016 at 09:53 AM. |

McCabe & Mrs. Miller was very entertaining too, but I found it less exciting than some of his other films. Julie Christie for me, just didn't sell the whole [Show spoiler] . Don't get me wrong, I think she's a great actress but she's much more believable as the proper english socialite. On a technical level, I had to use the subtitles a lot at the beginning of the movie. I don't know if it's the DVD's short comings or the way Altman filmed the whole over lapping dialogue thing. At this point, since I have not seen all his films. I would say my top picks would be: The Long Goodbye Nashville The Player 3 Women (I can't believe I liked this movie as much as I did) Short Cuts California Split McCabe & Mrs Miller Thieves Like Us Buffalo Bill (Newman was awesome but the movie didn't do it for me) Fool for Love (IMO this was a stinker) I'm watching MASH this weekend and I have a feeling I'm going to really like if not love it. I have so many more to go, and I can't wait to discover another gem! |

(of course, where you live could be hot summer, I don't know. ![]() Also it has an exceptional John Williams score which is quite different from the rest of his output: About McCabe & Mrs. Miller: I haven't seen it but I love the muddy, hazy, wintery, period atmosphere as I see it from trailers. Still, I don't think I would blind buy it. Last edited by filmmusic; 02-20-2016 at 11:45 AM. |

I'm looking for a loud doorbell because mine is in a hallway behind a door that can be closed, so sometimes it isn't heard. A better solution might be a WiFi doorbell with several chimes around the house.

A note about Altman's use of over-lapping dialog and mumbling characters. You're not supposed to understand every word. It's kind of like going to a party where there's a lot of people talking at once. You pick up what you can and have fun. Last edited by belcherman; 02-20-2016 at 03:05 PM. |

For those in NYC, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will be showing the restored version of A Brighter Summer Day from March 11-14. Long movie to see in a theater, but I may go.

Is The Last Metro still issued as a DigiPak? The list I alluded to a few days ago is a bit confusing on this point. The original release was in that "thin" cardboard packaging. But what was it replaced with, a standard DigiPak, or a Scanavo? I'm going to own any Truffaut movie Criterion issues, but if there's a question of the packaging being changed, I want to get the Digi, if at all possible.
My order is getting bigger and bigger. |

Personally, I'm not really a fan of Altman's "ensemble" movies, where there isn't a centralized story and the plot shifts between 10+ characters. McCabe & Mrs. Miller was awesome. Beautifully shot, atmospheric soundtrack and a great commentary on the nature of capitalism. Possibly my second favorite Altman after the hypnotic 3 Women. The DVD of McCabe isn't that good, so whenever Criterion decide to release the 4K restored blu ray, it will be a ginormous upgrade over the DVD! I enjoyed Images immensely, a great and very underrated psychological thriller. Since Criterion decided to surprise us with an Altman that wasn't McCabe this latest announcement, I really wish that it was Images and not The Player, a movie that is good but not as good as Images IMO, and because The Player already has a blu ray release. Of course the new one will look better, but not as big of an upgrade as one for a DVD only release. I would've preferred Quintet over The Player as well.
As for the release of McCabe, sadly I think we will have to wait until October-November-December for a release. I've scrolled through the release months for Criterion's best selling titles, and the vast majority of them are released in the first three or especially the last three months of the year. The releases for June and July, which are the next two announcements are especially poor sales wise. Although I hope I'm wrong and we see McCabe get announced next month. |
