Picked up--
Fanny and Alexander
Judex
The Tin Drum
--as soon as the sale started. Still had the $10 Facebook credit, so I got them all for around $60.

My heart dropped when I saw that. I still backordered it for $99 because it might be the last time to grab it for a reasonable price.

I just hope they fill my backorder!

Part of me wonders if it's premature of me to use the $10 credit.
Is this the $10 credit from months ago, or was there another more recent one?

Only one order during this sale for me (no tax return yet, probably a good thing). Picked up:

The American Friend
The Kid
The Graduate
Gila

No, I'm afraid Ford's nostalgic feelings for Ireland seriously clouded his judgment when it came to these movies.
This. Ford is one of my favorite filmmakers of all time, but while The Quiet Man is as well-made as any film of his, I find it almost impossible to enjoy for the reasons you state.

According to my email, it's the Facebook offer from September of last year. I signed up for that and saved it for a rainy flash day.

I wiped out about 1/3rd of my Criterion wishlist with this sale and a lot of the ones left aren't released yet. Bummer about the BBS set being out of stock. Anyway I picked up:
Bigger Than Life, Diabolique, Red River, Stagecoach, Something Wild, The Graduate, The Big Chill, Gilda, Dazed and Confused, M, The Darjeeling Limited.

All-righty then! The website froze up on me, so I went downstairs and cut my hair, then trimmed my beard and moustache. Came back a few minutes ago looking well-groomed and placed my first order of the sale:

Gilda
The Graduate
High and Low
Ikiru
Ivan's Childhood
The Kid With a Bike
Le Havre
Pina
Still Walking
Zazie Dans le Metro

Now I'm only 30 skus away from being Criterion blu-ray complete, and the oldest title I don't have yet is Gray's Anatomy which was released on June 19, 2012. My order earned me a $50.00 Gift Certificate, which is already burning a hole in my pocket, so I imagine I'll place another order this evening ...

Well that was crazy... missed the start due to being in a client meeting and didn't get to my computer until 12:30 eastern. Fortunately, through multiple site crashes, I was still able to get all 5 Jan/Feb releases that I'd held off on purchasing while waiting for this sale:

The Complete Lady Snowblood
The American Friend
Inside Llewyn Davis
Gilda
The Graduate

Now I'm only $50 short of my next $50 rewards certificate!

Shane is a good film but I would have to say High Noon was the better of the two to come out of that era of Western.
I wholeheartedly agree. The 50s really is the top decade for Westerns, with the 40s close behind. I think the 60s Westerns tend to be revered because they well and truly took the "romance" out of the frontier spirit that was a staple of the genre, but they really just built on what Ford, Hawks, Mann, et alia had done in the late 40s and 50s when they made Westerns much more adult in their themes. The gap between, say, The Searchers and The Wild Bunch isn't nearly as large as the gap between the Wayne oaters from Monogram or the Tim Holt RKO films and The Searchers.

Funny thing is that as much of a fan of Westerns as I am, I've never really been able to get into Spaghetti Westerns. Even Leone, who was a good step above his genre colleagues; I have more admiration than affection for his Westerns.

I wish I wasn't on the Criterion e-mail list today. Because I probably wouldn't have checked this thread and the entire 50% off sale would have passed me by.

However, those things didn't happen and I picked up:
The Graduate
Inside Llewyn Davis
Mulholland Dr.

I don't have the $60 to spend right now but I spent it anyway.

How long does it take for the $50 certificate to populate? I am like $2 away from earning one!

Woo! Flash sale!!!

Got the Classic Hitchcock collection as a gift for my mom. She's a Hitch fan, and I don't think she has those older ones on BD yet.

For myself, had to get The Graduate. Plus two blind-buys: The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, and For All Mankind. The former because I do like spy movies and political intrigue, I just hope it's not too dry/slow. The latter I figure should be a no brainer for me; I like documentaries about space.

Looks like I earned enough points for a $50 gift card. Next flash sale should be sweet.

Kinda sucks that I only want to buy one movie but the shipping bring up the price to Amazon's pricing where I get free 2 day shipping. When is the next sale suppose to happen?
