I gave up my pre-orders of Macbeth (2015) and The Tribe so I can buy two extra Criterions for the free shipping... I'm still sad about having to do that.

Guys, I bought far too much. But, silver lining: I only have 87 films left on my Criterion wishlist. Here's what I wrangled up:

The Kid
The Graduate
The Complete Lady Snowblood
Paris, Texas
Inside Llewyn Davis
Gilda
The Emigrants/The New Land
The American Friend
Death by Hanging
I Knew Her Well
Speedy

Coupled with my recent Masters of Cinema splurge, my wallet will be smarting for a little bit.

It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, though. I guess.

I saw this movie on YouTube a couple of years ago, and quickly decided not to purchase the Blu-ray. One could reasonably argue that, since my initial viewing was by way of an inferior 720p YouTube presentation, I have not had a chance to appreciate the movie as intended. Somehow, though, I don't feel slighted.
She is incredibly hot indeed. It's just that any attraction is immediately killed when watching her forced to eat shit

Its definitely a one time watch for most people.
Personally I do own it and have watched it a few times, twice at home when showing it to a couple of folks I know and two times in theaters.
Will be seeing it theatrically in April for a THIRD time cause I'm showing it for my film festival

It is funny how they consider it a sexy film though, that is about as honest as stores trying to sell Blue Valentine as a romance film... They are trying to kill the mood!

I have to reluctantly do the same. Several titles out there I REALLY want, but other matters are getting in the way right now. Hope to get in on the fun when the B&N sale rolls around this Summer.

Its super weird.
Although I do remember reading about some controversy in the states in the early 90s where it had ended up in a gay porn store in the south, causing its owner to get into some serious legal shit before a bunch of big hollywood folk (like Scorsese and Baldwin) stepped in to stand up for its artistic merit.

Just Nashville for me. My daughter's wedding is fast approaching and I'm experiencing Father of the Bride Syndrome expense wise.

Thanks to this thread, I was able to add to my collection. Always waited for the B&N sales.

I remember seeing it in a movie theater in New York. Awkward and uncomfortable in a room full of people.

Can't imagine watching it a second time. And I like Pasolini a great deal.

I always think back on how beautiful Raiders of the Lost Ark looks, with those strong colors and shadows. Slocombe was a great DoP.

May the blood of AKNewbie's divorce be on your hands.

His wife will take everything.

...starting with the Criterions.

Which she will no doubt watch with her new lover--a 24-year-old Norwegian exchange student named Gunnar--while AKNewbie is standing in front of a Redbox outside of 7-Eleven at 2am in the pouring rain, trying to figure out if he can recycle enough cans to rent a copy of Zoolander 2.

Divorce is an ugly thing.

...it can break a man.

Ugh.

I'm glad you are just a consumer of art, not a producer.

Still the best written legal film of all-time. As a former prosecutor, I remember watching the film often because of how well-written the courtroom scenes are.
I saw Nuremberg for the first time about a month ago and a half ago, and absolutely loved it. It's resided perma-saved on my DVR since HD Net aired it in October. Now, however, I can delete it, as I ordered it this evening from Twilight Time. I wasn't going to run the risk of it becoming sold out before I could add it to my collection. My impressions of the film can be found here. Having been a prosecutor, I'd be interested to hear your reaction to my thoughts. I must agree with your assessment of the film's script. The performances were, as I alluded to, impeccable, but the script empowered them by providing some seriously well-written dialogue.

My DVR is getting worn out. It's funny, but with all the movies I've had coming in the mail, it's all I can do to keep my DVR from reaching its maximum capacity. For every Blu-ray I watch, I am watching another 2-3 movies I've recorded. Turner Classic Movies, especially, keeps me on my toes. In the next ten days, TCM and HD Net are showing All The King's Men, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Day For Night, Gaslight, Mrs. Miniver, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, and Black Narcissus. I just finished recording Marty, also. I'm watching The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (Gene Tierney!), and, either The Asphalt Jungle, or Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf (both after I watch the latest episode of Better Call Saul).

I placed my second order of the sale tonight, and now only need 25 skus to be Criterion complete. However, all this talk about budgeting has made me paranoid, and so I have taken a solemn vow: no more blu-rays!
[Show spoiler](Today.)

Went a little overboard...

Antichrist
The Brood
Cronos
The Devil's Backbone
Frances Ha
Mulholland Dr.
Rosemary’s Baby
The Uninvited
Videodrome

I've actually been in the mood for some Criterion horror recently, so this was the perfect opportunity for me. Plus this will modernize my Criterion selection quite a bit.

I'm really excited to finally see The Uninvited. It was cheaper than the other discs, hopefully worth the blind buy.
