Christopher Nolan David Fincher George Lucas James Cameron JJ Abrams (Star Wars will be mine...) Michael Bay (13 Hours will be mine...) Stanley Kubrick Quentin Tarantino (Hateful Eight will be mine soon...) The Wachowskis Zack Snyder I want to have all of Peter Jackson's films, but I've been waiting for Blu-Rays on Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles. And then there's one I never heard of before (Forgotten Silver?). I have all but a few of Guillermo Del Toro's films (I will get Crimson Peak eventually, haven't seen his really early works). I might have all of M Night Shyamalan's work now, but I will part with The Last Airbender, so that chain will be broken. I think I'm only a couple away from being a David Lynch completist. Wouldn't mind having all his work. I will actively (or blindly) collect from Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, Stanley Kramer, Paul Verhoeven, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Sergei Eisenstein, and a few other dudes. Doubt I'll ever own all their films though. Most everybody else I seem to cherry pick off of. Last edited by Al_The_Strange; 03-04-2016 at 01:24 PM. |

It's private, it's intimate, and you learn a lot about the guy that probably wasn't published in mainstream publications, but I didn't particularly care for it. |

Stanley Kubrick. I lack five of his thirteen feature films: The Killing, Lolita, Eyes Wide Shut, Killer's Kiss, and Fear and Desire. I feel confident in saying I'll own all of these. Terrence Malick. When Criterion releases The New World, that will give me five of his (currently) seven feature length films, leaving me Knight of Cups and To The Wonder short from his entire filmography. Martin Scorsese. I absolutely love this man's work, as well as his knowledge of, and appreciation for, the history of film. By my count, I have ten of his films, and that count will grow substantially. But will I ever have every one of his major works? Time will tell. He has a more substantial filmography, which makes being a completionist difficult. The problem with some directors, from the perspective of this discussion, is that they have done so many films. I absolutely love Bergman's work, and I'll eventually own all his major films, and a good chunk of his earlier works. To me, everything the man did is worth owning, even if it's just to see his evolution from one film to the next. I could say the same for Kurosawa, Ozu, and even a Roman Polanski. Then I come to somebody like Steven Spielberg. I know people have varied opinions about his oeuvre, but I love his work. I have fifteen of his feature films. I probably won't own everything he's done (he's had some misses), but I will have a substantial percentage of it. Billy Wilder is another director I could come close to a complete set. Witness for the Prosecution will give me eight of his films. Then, there is Hitchcock. Refer to my comments on Ingmar Bergman. I have eight of Hitchcock's films, and there are at least fifteen others I want to get. That would represent a good chunk of his career as a director, but it wouldn't come close to his entire career's work. But, I'm sure as I begin reading Truffaut's book about his interviews with Hitch, that number will increase. Interesting discussion! |

Anyone here have an opinion as to whether The BRD Trilogy will be upgraded anytime soon?
I'm thinking about making a move for a mint condition dvd copy over yonder on the Criterion trade thread. Twood make me sick to fork over that kind of money for a dvd, only to hear an announcement about a blu-ray upgrade a couple months later. And no...I don't have a region-free player. |

I don't want to reveal anything in fear of spoiling the mystery and magic of the whole experience, but the 4am spur of the moment taxi to Club Silencio scene had me biting my nails. What is even better is the subtlety of the whole scene, with that "Hollywood is Hell" poster on the streetlight near where the girls hail the cab. You don't get better symbolism than that.

For entire filmographies I have (I think these are all of them):
Wes Anderson The Coen Brothers (well Barton Finkand The Ladykillers are DVDs) Buster Keaton (well, his Independent films) Stanley Kubrick Charles Laughton ![]() Christopher Nolan (I can't explain why as I'm iffy on most of the films) Steven Spielberg Quentin Tarantino (which I can't explain, as I only like 50% of his output) Jacques Tati Edgar Wright I'd say Hitchcock too, but I still am struggling to find good quality releases of the earlier British films. One off from having Fincher, but I hate Fight Club, so it does not enter my collection. |

I have the complete oeuvres of a number of filmmakers. I think my most represented filmmaker is Godard, of whom I have over 50 discs (though that is by no means complete in any real sense, as at least 50 of his films have yet to be released on Blu-ray or DVD, tho I do have bootlegs of many of them). It's the same with Hitchcock, though I do own multiples with both of them. Varda and Rohmer are both pretty much collected in single box-sets, which is convenient, especially as they both made so many films. Scorsese, Tati, Rivette, Murnau, PTA, Wes Anderson, Malick and Pialat are just some others.
