I rented this from Netflix, watched it, and had to order it immediately after. It's now probably my favorite Criterion and I've re-watched it several times.
This is great to read. Really looking forward to Pierrot le Fou now.

Curious, has anyone tried to watch "Cinematon". Granted, it's the longest film at 152-hours long but I've been watching the youtube clips...and just curious if anyone watched the screening of it.

I didn't order from B&N. I ordered The Milky Way from DVD Empire, and Diary of a Chambermaid from Amazon.

MMM, more options, I like that! Noticed Amazon had Kind Hearts..., might try to order even though it will cost slightly more.

That's nearly a week of non-stop viewing.

Good morning everyone,

I have a question concerning Wes Anderson.

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of his movies, not making a comment or critic on it however. I first saw Rushmore back in 1998 and then saw The Royal Tenenbaums and I sort of seen that really his style is just not for me. So I never really got around to check his other movies. My cable provider as the IFC channel (which is a great channel by the way) and I've notice on many of his movies that the rating is like a 4 or a 5 (you know the usual movie rating you might see in TV Guide for example). Most of the time 4 is average and 5 is below average. Most of the movies in Criterion would be usually at 3 and in most cases 2 or 1 if they were to show up on TV at all. So what is the major appeal for Wes Anderson? As I mention his style is just not for me and looking at ratings of his movies it seem like they are average at best yet so many people seem to rave about him. So I am wondering what is it that you like about his movies? The style, the humor.... It's just a curiosity thing on my part.

I like Wes Anderson movies mainly because of their style. There are so many quirky things to pick up on that it's impossible to get everything the first viewing. You really have to be actively engaged while watching.

I'd try The Royal Tenenbaums again if you didn't totally hate it the first time. I wasn't a huge fan at first, but it's much better with a second viewing and now I love it. Also check out The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. If you like Bill Murray, you need to see it. Just don't go in expecting conventional things.

Please discuss Wes Anderson in this new thread in the Movies section.

This is a thread to discuss Criterion Blu-ray editions. Some digression is inevitable, but must be kept to a minimum.

It's a good film and you'd probably enjoy it. That and Anderson allegedly "directed" it via e-mail.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why Criterion can't release a case that fits multiple discs instead of a cheap cardboard case. Their current cases are wide enough as it is. Especially when you have some studios release 5 disc cases in the thinner cases. I've just never been a fan of cardboard cases. They always end up damaged either through shipping or just normal handling. Being a OCD collector even the smallest crease sends shivers down my spine.

Then again I prefer the thinner bluray cases and saw them as a step in the right direction and never understood the reason for Criterions large cases. Even their 2 disc DVD cases are gigantic.

/end rant

They probably would if they could. But they - like everyone else - get their cases from a supplier who currently doesn't make anything like that.

I love how thick the Criterion BD cases are. They are classy with out being guady unlike the normal BD cases. I even like their cases for CHE and The Leopard (I felt it was a smidge taller than it needed to be but oh well)

As long as the paper stock is thick on those cases like Leopard etc I don't mind. (I just hate their early first paper cases with open tops and bottoms that were flimsy and just not very collectable.)

Currently they are doing a great job since they have stuck to BD cases that usually represent their DVD counterparts.

I am just anxious over the stype style case for their rumored NEW HOLLYWOOD Box Set. I would like each film to have a sep BD case.

and I am OCD on the paper style cases myself. If there is a box cut etc I will seek out another copy. It doesn't bother me, I just can't own it if it is beat up.

Yes, you are.

The fact is... Criterion wanted a custom-made plastic case for their blu-ray discs, which is what we now have. I'm sure if Criterion wanted to have custom-made multi-disc blu-ray cases made, then they would. But, out of how many blu-ray release have there been multi-disc sets that would warrant such a thing... two (By Brahkage & The Leopard). So, it doesn't make much financial sense for Criterion to shell out the money for new molds to be made just for a few multi-disc sets out of every 50+ blu-ray release. The majority of Criterion's blu-rays are going to be single-disc due to the space allowance that DVD didn't have. It just doesn't make any financial sense.

I'm gonna suggest you seek therapy. It's not healthy to obsess over such mundane things in life. It cause unnecessary stress.

CC, I'm a large admirer of you on these boards, but in this case I have to respectfully disagree - slightly.

I agree it's not worth it, but it's not like their regular cases were created on commission. Their supplier creates them in bulk. They aren't made by a facility inside Criterion.

Even if they did want to shell out the cash, Criterion can't will two disc cases into existence any more than you or I could. Well, OK I guess a suggestion from them would carry a little more clout, but ultimately it's not their decision to make.

I'm sure if uPlastic (or whoever their provider is) offered a two disc case, they'd probably use it.

Other than that. I'm with you.

Now, I'm off to watch Crumb!
