I've got a 20% off Barnes & Noble coupon, so I'll be purchasing The Manchurian Candidate this week instead of waiting.

I'd like to buy The Shining mostly, and Barry Lyndon.
I don't think that the fact that Criterion have some sort of a partnership with Warner now means that Warner will give them every single movie that they own. I don't think we'll be seeing a Criterion release of The Dark Knight, Blade Runner or GoodFellas any time soon.

I can see Warner maaaaybe giving them Barry Lyndon and Lolita because they're among the least popular Kubrick titles and because the Warner releases of those titles don't have any bonus features. But iconic and popular titles like The Shining, 2001, A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket which are good sellers and are owned by 7-10 times as many members of this forum as Barry Lyndon or Lolita - I don't see that happening.

As for the announcements tomorrow, I am not that excited. Can someone mention me the biggest/most iconic and best selling Criterion blu ray title that was released during a summer month? Especially with a release in June or July? I fear that we'll probably get some "meh" titles that no one was expecting tomorrow, though I hope I'm wrong and I go nuts over an announcement of McCabe & Mrs. Miller 24 hours from now.

It'd be up to the Kubrick estate too, not just Warner from what I've read

Last July saw:

The Killers 2-movie set
The Big Chill
Hiroshima Mon Amour
The Black Stallion
Here is Your Life
My Beautiful Laundrette

June 2014:

All that Heaven Allows
L'Eclisse
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Judex
Hearts and Minds
A Hard Day's Night

I'd say those are pretty huge months

This is one of those must-have First Day films for me. I have the old blu-ray but can't pass up this upgrade.

Some great movies, but I don't think that those are huge sellers, certainly not on the level of something like Mulholland Drive, Seven Samurai or Wes Anderson titles.

The best hugely popular titles I could find that were released during June/July are The Seventh Seal (June, 2009) and Scanners (July, 2014).

Well, the Big Chill doesn't really count because it was just a Bluray release of the original dual format release, but that one had been released in July also (of 2014).

Well yeah, very few CC titles are going to sell as well as those types. They don't come around too often. If Dr Strangelove is released in June or July, I do think it will sell quite well.

Yeah, I just noticed that when I was looking at how many people owned it. Forgot it was re-released.

I wish I had waited to get the rerelease, because I can't stand having 3-disc cases that include 2 discs I will never ever watch.

edit: about the announcements:
if they are to rerelease a standalone Bluray coming from a box, I really hope it's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
I saw it for the first time this Christmas and I really look forward to buying it, but I'm not buying the whole box.

Last night, I watched Zatoichi Challenged.

Zatoichi Challenged features an awesome fight sequence in the snow, and it's a sequence that rivals anything else that I've seen so far in the series. This time around, after a young mother's death, Zatoichi takes it upon himself to deliver the son to the father, who lives in a nearby village, where he is forced by a clan boss to produce pornographic material in the form of suggestive drawings on pottery. At the time, the punishment for pornography was death. I mean, I can understand being fired from work for pornography, but being killed for pornography seems rather extreme. I guess that those were pretty messed up times in general, though.

Hopefully for your sake they don't do the same for All That Heaven Allows, and Il Sorpasso

Has anyone seen Jude (1996)?
I've seen it twice 20 years ago and I remember liking it.
i don't know, it just came up randomly in my mind and thought that a Criterion release would be great.
