I agree it's not worth it, but it's not like their regular cases were created on commission. Their supplier creates them in bulk. They aren't made by a facility inside Criterion.

Even if they did want to shell out the cash, Criterion can't will two disc cases into existence any more than you or I could. Well, OK I guess a suggestion from them would carry a little more clout, but ultimately it's not their decision to make.

I'm sure if uPlastic (or whoever their provider is) offered a two disc case, they'd probably use it.
Scanavo is the current manufacturer for all of Criterion's DVD & blu-ray plastic cases. Scanavo offers plenty of packaging options, but Criterion's blu-ray cases were created exclusively for Criterion at their request. I remember an older article about Criterion's upcoming "custom-made" blu-ray cases... this was, obviously, during the first 8 or so releases in the cardboard packaging.

Here is an old e-mail response from Jon Mulvaney from over a year ago...

Quote:
“For a variety of reasons, we decided to make a custom clear plastic case that is much more durable than the original Blu-ray packaging, which you have seen with THE SEVENTH SEAL. Going forward, most of our Blu-ray releases will be packaged in this new custom case. We understand our customers’ desire for uniform packaging, and we are planning to offer the custom plastic case for all Blu-ray titles. We’ll announce this on our site, but please feel free to check back in a couple of weeks.”
I did read of one user on another forum, though, that claimed to have contacted Scanavo about purchasing the Criterion cases. Scanavo said they could be purchased... in case packs of 1,000 units, I think it was. Cause Scanavo does not sell directly to the consumer, as far as I know.

And thanks for being an admirer.

CC

Hopefully Criterion can get the rights to Terence Malick's "Lanton Mills" (a mega rare short film he made in 1970 which he also co-starred in) It would make a great extra on "The Thin Red Line".

Badlands would be most awesome, heck Mr. Malick even appears in that on too unbilled.

I don't think WB licenses their films. I can't think of Criterion/WB release.

Well when films get discussed people freak out as well. See Wes Anderson discussion. Not sure what people expect us to discuss with the last releases announced 3 weeks ago and no more announcements till Friday or Monday.

The fact is... Criterion wanted a custom-made plastic case for their blu-ray discs, which is what we now have. I'm sure if Criterion wanted to have custom-made multi-disc blu-ray cases made, then they would. But, out of how many blu-ray release have there been multi-disc sets that would warrant such a thing... two (By Brahkage & The Leopard). So, it doesn't make much financial sense for Criterion to shell out the money for new molds to be made just for a few multi-disc sets out of every 50+ blu-ray release. The majority of Criterion's blu-rays are going to be single-disc due to the space allowance that DVD didn't have. It just doesn't make any financial sense.

I'm gonna suggest you seek therapy. It's not healthy to obsess over such mundane things in life. It cause unnecessary stress.

CC
I wound up getting a copy of The Leopard that was a little dinged on the top edge. As it wasn't that bad, it didn't seem worth it to exchange it for another. With my luck, I would have gotten a good case, but the plastic guides inside for the discs would have been cracked.

When you said Badlands, I thought of "Dumbland", the ridiculously weird animations David Lynch did.

Anyone else see those?

I can not believe I missed a case discussion!! Just to annoy CC a little, I think this is the case people want below:
http://www.scanavo.dk/overlap_30mm_2_one.asp

I say, if they have it on the site and it looks close enough, Criterion must use it!!!
BTW: I think I am going to start a petition to get slipcovers over the plastic case releases. I think that would really trigger good discussions.

Yea, I don't get why you can't talk about Wes Anderson on here. I mean, basically every one of the guy's movies is in the Criterion collection. If you can't talk about someone like that, what are you supposed to talk about?

CG, dvd and Blu-ray discs are the same size

Anyways, I am not sure about the case height, as compared to each model they have. I assume if you look through every model, you may find the BD height.

Dvd and blu-ray discs are the same size? Then what the **** have I been buying?

Being that Criterion doesn't use those blue cases for blu-rays, size matters for their blu-rays so that's why I asked.

Well Redbox put me out of a job, but I rent from that machine every week.

I need to find another job. There isn't that much things out there for someone my age right now. Heck, any age. Maybe I need to finally put myself in a school.
