Just seems like common sense. But I don't know, maybe it's just too complicated and rocket sciency for me to comprehend.
It's an on-going joke.

Whenever we discover new phantom pages, the announcement seems to mysteriously get delayed, as well.

I read in an article somewhere that they will do these 6, then a couple month for so another 6 and then ..2 or 3? every other month or something... I forget lol.

I will try find the quote.

Quote:
As for Criterion’s future UK plans, “We want to get a critical mass into the market relatively quickly,” says Turell. “After the first wave, we’ll probably follow up with another six a couple of months thereafter, and then probably two titles a month, three titles every other month.”

Considering Thief of Bagdad it out in the UK, I assume an upgrade is in the cards eventually, but I'll probably import it before then.

Hi everyone,
I'm really interested in renting some Criterion Blu-ray releases but having trouble locating someone locally that carries them.

Can anyone recommend a mail order rental service online that might have some criterion movies?

I've heard netflix might, but that it might take a long time to get some titles in your queue.

Criterion could easily prevent the 'leaking' by adding the phantom pages after the official announcement. But they don't care obviously

I would think subscribing to Hulu Plus would be your best bet. You can stream a bunch of Criterion titles with that service. As for renting discs, ?

I don't know about blu-rays...but many public libraries have an extensive collection of Criterion films on DVD...AND THEY ARE FREE TO RENT!

I was on a Macbeth kick this week and watched back to back Shakespearean titles in the collection.

I saw Throne of Blood first. Interesting to see how Kurosawa Japanesed up the story, but it just didn't seem as innovative to me as some of his other films. Felt somewhat rushed to fit everything in vs. the flow I usually enjoy in his movies. I've come to expect epic samurai films and this falls just below some of the others. 8/10

Last night I finished up Polanski's Macbeth. Although it felt more like I was reading the actual story than watching a movie due to the dialog, the 140 minutes passed quickly. You could sense how Sharon Tate's murder affected Polanski throughout. Very moody and dark version. 8/10 (technically more like 8.25/10 to edge TOB)

I happened to catch the 2015 Macbeth this weekend. Having seen the two that you mentioned, it didn't stack up. Both versions are tremendous in their own way.

Have you seen the most recent adaptation? Its pretty impressive and a very dark experience. One of my favourite adaptations!

Also the BBC in UK did an adaptation of it with James Mcavoy but they put a modern twist on it, but another really great adaptation if you hunt it down, think its on Youtube. BBC Shakespeare Retold.

What didn't you like about it? I wouldn't really compare with the other two listed, Polanski's tis very close to original story and obviously the other has been adapted and changed a lot too.

Funny enough I watched the new one too.

I absolutely love Michael Fassbender and I think he killed it as Macbeth, but there was something genuinely lacking about the film. I think it has a lot to do with style over substance. I also thought that the deviations from the play were quite evident, as well.

As long as PQ isn't your top priority I would second this. Hulu Plus is a grest value for their Criterion library.

See I think it was his best performance i've seen him do - and I loved the changes and found the witches to be more mysterious and creepy than other portrayals. The sound track was also so very fitting and worked so beautiful with the visuals, I find it so powerful.

I thought
[Show spoiler]Malcolm
was portrayed a lot weaker than usual.

I didn't really dislike it, but still preferred the other two. It looked amazing, and the performances were strong. Usually I won't fault a film for being slow and I'm a patient cinephile, but it had my eyes glazing over occasionally, whereas Polanski had me riveted.

See its other way around for me.

Polanski's is phenomenal and i'd say a must have but I found I got a tad bored at times where as I was fixed on the 2015 one.

The only criticism for the 2015 is
[Show spoiler]Lady macbeth's suicide, I wanted to see it on screen and the way the film was cut at first I thought she was asleep on the bed, not dead lol.
- not sure if theres any point using spoiler tags for Macbeth but can't hurt :P!

I haven't seen it, but will try to see it soon. I like lumping titles together as much as possible to get a full appreciation of different visions. I think I may stick on this Shakespeare theme for a couple of weeks.

I also need to revisit the written play. I covered it in my English lit class, but it was independent study so I could graduate a semester early. I waited until the end of the semester and knocked everything out in about 2 weeks. To say I skimmed the play is an understatement.
