PS...I watched A Woman Under the Influence a number of years ago...good film.
Sorry for not responding sooner. Had a little date.

I could say A Woman Under The Influence and Opening Night is prob my favs, but The Killing of a Chinese Bookie is prob the best to watch. Husbands is for someone who has seen a couple of his films. If someone was new to Cassavetes and watched Husbands, they would fall asleep the first 30 mins (which if you seen the bar scene, it's one of the best parts).

No way this could be the Amazon sale...what happened to the 50% off like they had after B&N's last sale? No $17.99 titles???

Yeah, it kind of sucks. I don't know how they go about their sales. So random. 40%? SELECTED titles? Weird.

Also, I like to take the time and say, for the people who never had to work in retail, Lay Off on the employees. They work 8 hours a day watching the same person walk in and out asking the same questions, arguing about late fees when we have proof that you returned them late, but still like to fight. You fight with the employee but the computer shows when you returned it and by which employee checked it in, so next time you want to say something smart to an employee, just remember that we heard the same story 50 times a day. It's a different view when your on the other side of the desk. Just thought I help out the future (if there is any future of rental stores) employees.

Also, there is no way that we could of charged fake late fees to someone. So I don't know what computers other Blockbusters use, but that whole "Blockbuster charges fees for no reason" thing is not true.
I'd like to disagree with that! Years ago, when I lived in NJ, my local Blockbuster called my house and said I had my copy of Cast Away past the due date. The funny thing is, I never rented Cast Away at all. The manager kept making me feel like I was in the wrong. When she told me to make sure and check my car in case I "thought" I returned it, I asked, "Why? I never rented it." I guess she missed it the first 3 times I said it.

She said she had me on video renting it with my card, and then could not show me said video. Yeas later, I found out Blockbuster had no cameras in the store. She said she would "do me a favor" and waive the charge, so I asked her how that was a favor since I never rented it in the first place.

Hey...we all have lives outside of this forum!

Yeah...as I mentioned earlier, I had seen A Woman Under the Influence. The wife and I started to watch Husbands, but got a teeny bit bored and turned it off after about 20 minutes.

I know that he was a great director and I want to give all his films a chance. He was also a pretty good actor...loved the work that he did with Peter Falk on Columbo.

Maybe Chinese Bookie is a good place to start...followed by Opening Night...it got good reviews as well.

Thanks Bud!

What sale is this? I'm not seeing any SC BDs on sale at BN.com.

Contempt was being prepped for release by Criterion when Studio Canal took the film back along with Ran also.

I own Contept and The Ladykillers. They are decent discs. I still own my Criterion DVD of Contempt for the audio commentary.

borrowed Rossellini War Trilogy from library last night. i didn't watch the whole thing but skimmed most of it. i have to say it's quite impressive.

is the film stock SO BAD that they really can't do a Blu-Ray version? it's a title i'd want... but only in the best PQ.

If Criterion doesn't do their New Release announcements today for the 15th, I wonder if they will Twitter or something that they won't announce till 16th?

I am hoping for today.

I have no idea what to predict to be honest. I would love to see Le Cercle Rouge announced just because the Studio Canal edition is coming out in Europe and Criterion seems to still have the title in their grasp.

Criterion's new post about the color differences in their new DVD release of "L'enfance nue" versus the Masters of Cinema DVD release.

If anyone's interested, here's a write-up from Criterion discussing the color differences between the MOC release and their own of "L'enfance nue" as well as a little insight into their overall color decisions. It's a pretty good, short read.

Last time it was new release titles day, Criterioncast started linking to film trailers on twitter that just so happened to be the october announcements before they were announced. So far today, they have linked to Antichrist (at this point, kind of a given), but also Night of the Hunter, and one to cause some excitement, the first of Criterion's Chaplin releases, "Modern Times". These guys tend to have some sort of insight, so I would bank on these three and that new hollywood boxset.

That would prob be a case of getting the wrong account for the wrong customer. Like if someone rented that was close to your name or something close to you (name, phone #, address) and they pulled up the wrong account and rented to them on your account.

But there is no way a movie rents on your account out of nowhere or fees come out of nowhere. There is always a reason why you would have a movie or fees on your account, like someone renting on your account by mistake.

Yeah, Killing of a Chinese Bookie is a great place to start. Plus, there are 2 different versions. The better, longer version. Then there is a re-edited version, which is shorter and gets to the point. But it doesn't feel Cassavetes-like, so the longer version is better.

If so, Antichrist, Night of the Hunter, Modern Times, AND the New Hollywood set (10 blus), BEST MONTH EVER (without Antichrist).

But, Criterion has said "Be patient... it'll be Monday".

Nope. Actually another household member keeps their account open all the time, so all I got to do is click on Criterion Collection's Facebook. Can't get me to start a Facebook account still. Not now, since I can access their page without having one.

This would be awesome for November:

Night of the Hunter
Sweet Smell of Success
Modern Times
New Hollywood

Though I wouldn't mind if they announced another P&P title such as Life and Death of Col. Blimp.

It won't happen today and I think Saturday morning is more likely than Monday.
