I believe the original post mentions that frame was found at the head of a reel, not sure if that means it was out of place or if it has to appear in the movie.

Yes, but they've described the image as "creepy" and said it fits the mood of the film. I don't think that describes Welles' film.

Is the frame from the actual movie though, or something else? I do think Cat People is more likely, but I had assumed they found some random creepy frame from an unrelated movie that was just used as the film leader.

Last year, Yami had posted this list of Warner titles that all went OOP around the same time. We already know Criterion has rights to several of them (I bolded those). How amazing would it be if they all were with Criterion?

Dreams (Akira Kurosawa)

Blow Up (Michelangelo Antonioni)
The Breaking Point (Michael Curtiz)
Barcelona (Whit Stillman)
Magnificent Ambersons (Orson Welles)
The Asphalt Jungle (John Huston)
A Face in the Crowd (Elia Kazan)
Klute (Alan Pakula)
Day for Night (Francois Truffaut)
Before Sunset (Richard Linklater)

Cat People (Jacques Tourneur)
Before Sunrise (Richard Linklater)

Day for Night and the Before Trilogy have already been confirmed as future Criterion releases, and Whit Stillman has made no secret of wanting Criterion to release Barcelona so that's also likely.

Not one of these titles would seem out of place in the Criterion Collection, imo. Magnificent Ambersons, please...!

That's terrible. I hope his doctors/medical staff were professional in his surgery procedure. He'd be a great loss to the cinema world.

Well on their Tumblr page, the studio tagged the photo with "1942." Therefore, anyone who has been guessing Cat People may not be too far off.
Now we're talking. I would sell my soul.

Oh, and I really really like the fact that a Carnival of Souls is in the fold for an upgrade, although I was hoping that they would stay with the sexy cover art of the DVD. The movie itself is the main attraction, though, and what an awesomely brilliant movie it is.

Much like my ex-wife, I'm glad I saw it, but I cannot say that I ever wish to see it again.

It possesses many of the same qualities as my ex-wife.

It's very charming.

The talking never stops.

There is no sex.

...Bergman is a genius.
So you only watched the short 3 hour version? The full 5 hour cut is even better.

I've only seen (and loathed) Like SOmeone in Love. I have been meaning to give him another chance, so I picked up Certified Copy from the library today.

John Malkovich is incredible in that film. I'd for sure love to see a U.S. blu-ray of this, Criterion or not!

The music is hearbreaking.
Now, I've seen only 3 Antonioni films, but could this be like a nod to Antonioni too (or influenced by him)? (the alienation)

I've watched both Certified Copy and Like Someone in Love and I just couldn't get into them at all. I should probably give them another chance, but I'm not in any hurry to do so.

Man, I love both of those films and I find them both tremendously rematchable.
