That Orson Welles quote is spot-on. My copy remains unopened. I just can't bring myself to watch it again after the impact my initial viewing had on me years ago. Even the films that ape it don't quite have the same feeling.

If anyone here has a copy of Berlin Alexanderplatz or The Human Condition that they might be interested in trading, please PM me immediately.
I have several like new Criterions available and might be willing to throw in some cash+titles if the offer is right. They're just dvds. ...you don't want em anyway! |

Earlier today, I flipped a coin to decide between watching my Criterion Blu-ray of The Last Temptation of Christ or watching my Blu-ray of Ben-Hur (1959) and the included 1925 silent version.
Ben-Hur won the toss. I guess that there's always next Easter, although I'll probably get around to watching the Scorsese film before then. I think. Maybe. |

I was totally riveted throughout both the 1959 and 1925 versions of Ben-Hur. They're amazing films across the board, and they're examples of epic filmmaking at its finest.

Channel 5 is UK is under fire by parents for showing Watership Down for Easter.. apparently its inappropriate lmao.
Oh my days, do these parents not know of an off switch or read about a film before showing kids, and I'm sorry just because it has Rabbits in it, doesn't mean its an easter film, so why would it be inappropriate to show on Easter ![]() They should have shown The Last Temptation of Christ or The Passion of Christ lol. |

I finished A Brighter Summer Day yesterday. It took me a few nights to get through it because I started late at night and it is such a slow burn. I cannot say that 4 hours flew by, but I also did not mind the length.
It is not like any other coming of age I have seen. Slow, deliberate narrative that was completely engrossing. The scope was so huge with so many characters that I did have a little difficulty in following. I was also at a disadvantage in historical understanding of the Taiwan/China/Japan dynamics. Gorgeous, gorgeous film. Much was shot at night or with camera setups and angles unlike most movies. Solid 9/10. |
