You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. Haha.

I bought the Cloverfield Blu-ray for five dollars this past month, because I had a hankering to revisit it before going to see 10 Cloverfield Lane, which happens to be a truly outstanding film.

I had forgotten how much fun I used to have watching Cloverfield several years ago, and I was reminded that it's a solid entry into sci-fi horror, especially as far as found footage films go.

Here's a good article on Malick's 20 year hiatus from directing, which includes a lot of the information I was able to use in my thesis. Shows that he actually had quite a lot of financial backing during the 20 year period, but for a variety of reasons did not make a film.

Expectations for The Before Trilogy box set?

This is what I'd like to see:

Packaging: Digipack (Like the Three Colors set)
Cover art: Sarah Habibi (Hand drawn artwork is ideal. Would not mind stills. I trust her talent)
Printed content: Booklet (No dorm room posters here)
Blu-ray menu (clips not static image): (Nobody talks about these but I love when they uses clips instead of static photos)
-Before Sunrise (Jesse convincing Celine to tour Vienna with him)
-Before Sunset (Jesse in the bookstore noticing Celine is there)
-Before Midnight (Jesse and Celine watching the sunset)
Bonus material: commentary by Linklater, Hawke and Delpy on all 3 films. Interview with Linklater on his real life story behind Before Sunrise.
Interview with Linklater, Hawke and Delpy on the writing process.

Although digipacks are more classy looking, i wouldn't prefer that since it deteriorates easily.
The cases in the 3 colors box came to me already warped.

Well, if they're going to use a digipack I'd prefer it a bit better like Fanny, Il Sorpasso etc than the 3 seperate cases like 3 Colors.

Actually I think digibooks are sturdier, so it would be nice if Criterion started doing those instead of digipacks.
And I consider them even classier.

I have seen the 2 first films of this trilogy and I wasn't crazy about them like many.
But maybe I'll buy this.
The 3rd film was shot in a place where my uncle has a summer house in the general area.
Although I understand it doesn't show much of Greece. (does it show the town of Pylos?)

Are the films in the Before Trilogy as dull as Dazed and Confused and Boyhood?

In other words, if I didn't like those movies, what's the likelihood of liking the Before Trilogy?

I would like to see a bit more robust supplement package, but that's probably because I'm a guy who rarely finds time for commentaries.

I found Dazed and Confused dull and uninteresting, but love The Before Trilogy.

I also quite like Boyhood though, so who knows?

If they go with that I won't be disappointed. Those are very classy.

I'm still kind of wondering if it's really a Linklater set with Boyhood and possibly Waking Life included, instead of just a Before one, though I can see the reasoning behind separate releases.

If they don't include Waking Life with The Before Trilogy, it would feel incomplete.

Hmm I liked Dazed, and love The Before trilogy but didn't liked Boyhood that much, I would say The Before Trilogy is pretty unique compared to those others.

Don't really see the connection, I would be happy by the trilogy alone , unfortunately July isn't usually a month of big boxsets, so don't really know were the speculation began, hopefully it changes this time, if not the 3 last months of the year is where there are more chances.

I don't see the connection/relevance.

FWIW, I don't even like Cloverfield that much. It was £1 from a second hand shop, not particularly indicative of my taste in film.

I'm not sure if anyone would be really taken with the Before trilogy if they didn't like Linklater's other renowned films. I mean, maybe for Delpy and Hawke's chemistry, which for my money goes down as the most convincing on-screen couple in film, but still. They're Linklater films through and through

Boyhood offers traces of Linklater as a whole, but I'd say only a partial dose of Before (mainly the later years of his life.) I don't know. I love his films and would place him at the forefront of current active directors.

On a side note, I got an invite this morning to an early screening for Everybody Wants Some!! with a Q&A afterwards. Good way to start off the day.
