If you want to it's not only a science fiction film, then I'd absolutely agree with you, given what I know about George Lucas. Mythology and world religion played heavily in his formation of the original script, but so did science fiction serials including Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. He took cues from several different directors, including Lang, Einstein and especially Kurosawa. It would be an oversimplification to call it only sci fi, when there is clearly so much more going on. But not science fiction? Not a chance.

Oh, and by the way, our own website, here, classifies Star Wars, in order, as action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy and epic.
It's not strictly a Sci Fi film, in fact it's more Fantasy than Sci Fi. Much in the way that the old Star Trek is Sci Fi and the new Trek films are Action Adventure.

I keyword raped Amazon for Homevision and New Yorker Video... Interesting to see all of the DVD and VHS releases that made it to the Criterion roster. With this power you may be able to unlock the ability to predict future releases. Don't tell anyone, keep this knowledge safe.

Not Star Wars related, but speaking of awful sequels...

I was looking for a short, light Criterion last night and finally got around to watching Lady Snowblood 2. Huge drop off IMO between 1 and 2. It started off as more of a continuation and then got silly about 10 minutes in. Even remotely staying with the premise of 1 could have made this a solid film. Chicks with swords seeking revenge should be a winning recipe. Somehow they messed up the formula.

I really enjoyed 1, but would knock this down to 4.5/10.

If Criterion has released a film on Hulu does it mean it will likely show up as a Criterion release at some point? Or are the two things not really related?

Room At the Top - which doesn't have a good DVD release in NA (let alone Blu Ray) - was on Criterion's Hulu awhile back. It's been on my Criterion wishlist for ages...

It can't hurt. Not all films get a blu-ray. One recent one that did was The Naked Island.

The vast majority of Criterion titles on Hulu won't ever get a BD release

Yeah, I think they may use it to try things. They can find how many looked at something, how many finished it and possibly demographic info about the viewers.

I don't understand the appeal of prime, partially because I don't use streaming services, but mainly because giving them $100/year for "free" shipping baffles me. I pay them $0/year for actual free shipping.

Seems like a lot of money just for the convenience of making smaller orders that arrive slightly sooner.

It really depends how often you shop with them. I had prime for the past year up until Mar. 24th (only bedside someone gave me a $100 amazon gc for Christmas in 2014), and it was handy for getting any movie that dropped in price, or any household item and/or vitamins I needed. With any of those things, I no have to get my total up to $50 to get free shipping, and that's just not practical.

I did usw their streaming service though and that was great for the content they have that Netflix doesn't. I also got free Kindle books every month, and a few other perks. So Prime is certainly a bargain if you're using most of their perks, but for just shipping only though? It just really depends on your buying behavior.

I have a Target redcard so I am shopping their mlre since I get free shipping and no minimum

If you use Amazon as a means of avoiding other people, then it makes sense. If I could buy all of my groceries from them to stay out of Wally World, then sign me up.

I especially like that pre-orders on blus are worry-free. You lock in at a good price and it ships when available for "free" with Prime.

Amazon Prime makes great sense for me, because going out most of the time is pretty much impossible for me. I have to be having a really good day to be able to drive my car anywhere. So, if I want to buy a movie that goes on sale for a short time, I can get it two day shipping for free. If I spend $35, which isn't hard, I can get it same day. I do a lot of my Christmas shopping through Amazon, so the free shipping is nice there, too. And I do a good deal of streaming, though more of that is music. I'll need to check out some more of Amazon's Prime video offerings.

I use their streaming services, mostly movies but some music, too. I will say that the quality of their Prime eligible movies has gone down (imho) lately. They've changed their model so that many of the "better" movies are only available via add-on subscriptions such as Starz, which kind of sucks.

I also like not having to spend $35 to get free shipping and I like the two-day shipping. Now if I see something I want that's at a good price I don't have to pad the order to get the free shipping. Having to pay for shipping would make a good deal not such a good deal.

Also, in the past I've been burned when I've had time-sensitive orders (birthday presents mostly) get delayed even though I ordered them in what I thought was plenty of time for them to arrive on time. For items that aren't time-sensitive, I often choose the no-rush option and receive a $1 credit toward future ebooks or digital content.

All in all, it's worth the $100 to me. YMMV.

I agree with all of this, but the last sentence is where I see the disconnect. Prime members pay $100 every year for shipping their orders. To me that makes their good deals not such good deals.

Prime was good for me while I was using their streaming service, although I got it on offer as $100 seemed too much for me, but now that their streaming service isn't available on my set top box (non fire TV device) I don't have a need for it.

Also since the update to $49 for free shipping I have started to use eBay much more, you can get much better deals there if you have the patience, just follow some searches with your desired prices and you are set.

Hulu and Netflix is all I need in addition to buying blus, Amazon on top was a bit overkill as I didn't care much for their original content.

If you had read the rest of my post you would see where I noted the other benefits I enjoy as part of Amazon Prime. Yes, there is a cost, but factoring in those other benefits and amortizing that cost over all of the orders I place in a year, it's small change compared to adding $3.99 to the cost of every blu ray, cd, or book that I order in a year.

One of the big benefits with Prime is the unlimited streaming of quality tv shows (new and old). I've knocked out entire shows by streaming them on Amazon. Currently buzzing through Season 2 of Hannibal.

Yep, I watched Suits, Orphan Black, and all 8 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm thriugh Prime among others. They're doing better in the originals dept. too with Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and The Man in the High Castle.

The other good thing about Amazon is there are no commercials streaming TV shows where as Hulu makes you pay extra.

I wished that Amazon offered Criterion Collection because I totally would get rid of Hulu.

I thought about just getting rid of Hulu and buying Criterion blu-rays and stream everything else on Amazon.
