That would be cool. Am I correct in assuming that if you take the time to initiate the transaction in the store, then the 10% discount applies? This goes back to my question. If I go in on July 1st, and the 50% off sale has started (assume I'm a member then), if they don't have a Criterion I want in stock at the store, and I ask them to have it shipped to store, or even better to my home, does the 10% discount apply?

I know this is automatic to you guys, but I'm making sure I get the finer points down. Thank you, again.

Yes. If the store doesn't have the item, you would be able to have it shipped into the store and then get your 10% off, along with any coupons. Or, if you wanted the item shipped to your home, then you would get 10% off, any coupons, and free express shipping.

The only caveat, which changed in March 2015, is that the store will only be able to offer you the in-store price for ship-to-home orders. This wouldn't normally matter during the Criterion sales at the store as the in-store and online prices of items would be the same. I would suggest to do a ship-to-home order on any Criterion that the store doesn't have because you'd get the extra 10% off that you wouldn't get online. On other items, such as books, the online price could be significantly cheaper on the website. While you won't get the 10% off on the website, you will get the (most likely) lower price plus the free express shipping.

1. I'm planning on signing up for my B&N membership at the start of June, as the next sale, per my recollection, starts in early July. That would give them time to mail me at least one 20% off coupon, I would expect. Am I better served by signing up for the membership a bit earlier? Might I get a second 20% off coupon if I sign up at the start of May instead? The year covers both the summer and fall sales, so I'm good there.

2. Just to clarify, there is a one item, 40% off coupon in each of the two B&N biannual sales? I wasn't paying attention last July, but it was most helpful when buying The Three Colors set. And, if I have two Barnes & Noble stores in driving distance, would anything prevent me from using a 40% off coupon at both stores? I'm not wanting to take advantage of a good thing, only to know what other buyers already do. If it's once per sale, store wide, I'm completely happy with that.

3. Unfortunately, Texas has an 8.25% sales tax, so the membership 10% off only covers that tax, and a couple bucks more on a big sale (it saves me 70 cents per single blu-ray). Too bad I don't live in Delaware, New Hampshire, Alaska, Oregon or Montana, where there is no state tax. At least, on a $300 order, the tax saved in store pays for the membership, and I get the second order truly tax free (plus the coupons, which is really the reason for most U.S. citizens to have it).

If I buy in store, I get the 10% off; the website does not. However, if I go to buy something in store, and they do not have it, and have to ship it to the store for me to buy, am I technically then buying "in store", allowing the 10% membership discount to apply?

Thanks guys!!
Been a member for 3 years, with a July 1 sign-up/renewal date. First time I got any member 20% coupons (2) during a Criterion sale was last November. Basically, member coupons are completely random, as many members will attest to. You would think that membership "benefits" would be the same for each member paying the $25 fee, but they are not. Ask anyone at B&N (phone or in-store) to explain the member coupon policy, and you'll quickly discover there isn't one, and you'll just go round in circles.

Take a look at the B&N 50% sales threads on this site. Each sale gets over a 100 pages of comments and many are about coupons. There are generic coupons at various times throughout the year, including the infamous "$8 off one item over $40." And then there is all the coupon "stacking" business. Again, the B&N sale threads here will tell you all you need to know about that nonsense.

B&N stores can order anything for in-store pick-up. I always get the member 10% on such items, and they always honour the 50% for Criterion sales.

Hope this helps.

Recently bought a used 8 1/2 off a user on this website. Went to play it this morning and it's got the bronzing that people experienced a year and a half ago. Rather just go through Criterion then through the user.

Found the link on the Criterion website for the send in program. I'm sure they still do disc exchanges, right?

Yes just send it, no need to email about it, maybe just a note with the disc.

Tell us if they exchange the disc and how you like the movie. I am always excited to hear when people see some of my favorites for the first time.

1. I would advise you to purchase your membership in early May. B&N usually has their 40% off blu-ray sale in June. I seem to recall using coupons for that sale as well as the annual July-Criterion sale.

2. The best coupon of the year is the annual Black Friday coupon which has fluctuated in percentage through the years. However, it is still the best annual coupon. I have already planned on purchasing the Wim Wenders road trilogy on that day.

3. I am sorry that you have to pay an outrageously high sales tax. Perhaps a summer visit to either Glacier or Crater Lake National Park may provide you with a more worthwhile sales experience.

As for not receiving the 10% off discount on on-line purchases, you still receive free shipping. This comes in handy with certain purchases that are already at a lo price. For instance, I recently purchased Buffalo '66 which was selling on-line for at the time for $8.99. I used a 20% off coupon and used my 5% off B&N credit card. Even with the 7% New Jersey state sales tax included, the grand total including shipping was $7.69.

Default Early Murnau

Has anybody else been aware of this:

Early Murnau: Five Films 1921-1926 Blu-ray
Schloß Vogelöd / Phantom / The Last Laugh / The Grand Duke's Finances / Tartuffe | Masters of Cinema

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Early...lu-ray/153364/

It is for releases like these that I am so elated and reassured with my decision to go "region-free!"

There's also this release that looks like it will be equally impressive.

I saw it on Wednesday. It is truly an incredible film. Really, really enjoyed the film. Everyone else in class was a bit lukewarm about it. The picture quality wasn't good. It would be awesome if Criterion would release it.

i think everyone should be region free, and i don't understand why they don't do it.
Who likes to have so narrow choices with being region locked?
Well, i've even seen people having the notion that every non-US bluray is "bad", while in many cases it's the opposite.

Similar to this? I just looked at the price from the MOC one and at £14.99 it's cheaper than the US price.

I saw the Early Murnau three or four days ago, and that's definitely going on my want list; thank you for reminding me.

I also saw the Dziga Vertov compilation, and that is on my want list. My plan is to add these two compilations within the next two months, as that's when I will be starting to incorporate more documentaries and imports into my collection. There's also The Mutual Comedies of Charlie Chaplin, from BFI. I will be buying my region free Blu-ray player at the end of this month, Mrjohnnyb, along with the Classic Hitchcock collection directly from Criterion. At $75 for the four films that would me $30 + each, and with free shipping, I figure that's already a no-brainer. That will give me 389 loyalty points; I should hit the 500 mark with their next Flash sale, and have use of the $50 gift certificate right away.

I figure I have another six months of heavy movie buying ahead of me to get to a point where I have a pretty good mixture of what I want to ultimately own in my collection. After that, I'll still buy, but I'll be focusing more on my pre-war baseball card collection, and watching more of the films I already have. I have plenty to write about already, and updating the classic film star bios on our site is helping me to brush up on my writing skills.

I fell in love with Day For Night this morning. A fascinating, subtly engrossing film. One of the best "movies about movies" I've seen.
