a good many of them lol, at over 320+ I buy so many I end up picking & choosing which ones to watch. I've seen just about all of the films and bought them all on blu ray to one day go back and watch them again, I know, dumb, but if I ever have the want I have the movie on my shelf

I've watched more than half of my criterions so far & am in love with them, its really opened my eyes to a whole new experience while watching films. I was always into sub titled foreign films but the criterion collection really kicks it up a notch with some titles I'd never imagine myself watching ever. A good case in point was M, that movie was absolutely amazing and look forward to watching the rest of my collection!

I remember watching that when I was around 15 and hating it, thought it was just God awful boring. Only thing I remember/liked was
[Show spoiler] the redneck getting kicked out of the convenience store.

Hey Higgs, where did you find the artwork for Benjamin Button so that it fits in a Criterion clear case?

Thanks!

Just watched Crumb - absolutely fascinating. Very depressing family life though - even if I didn't know what happened to Charles post-filming, his interviews alone would still be upsetting. It looks like all the boys have extreme issues due to the environment they were raised in, and Robert is really the only one to have any success, and any degree of normal life. I'm no psychiatrist, but I'd say being able to express himself through his artwork is one of the things that kept him from becoming another Charlie or Maxon.

Yeah, but that's what separates those of us who love watching films from those who just love collecting them.

Just watched Night Train To Munich, and loved it.

Except I was a complete idiot and had my tv set to 16:9 instead of 4:3, so for half the movie the image was stretched and distorted.

Also, the back of the box lists it as 90 minutes, but it actually lasted 95. Typo? Or do they not include the beginning credits?

I just finished watching Last Year at Marienbad and this is one of the most boring films I have ever watched. It took me about six tries to finish this film. With that said I don’t think this is a bad film I liked it, I just found it to be extremely slow but also very eerie. The atmosphere it creates as the film goes on is amazing. Throughout the film I had no idea what was going on and I still don’t know what happened. I am curious on what you guys think about this film as I never heard about it until Netflix recommend it.

It is one of those movies tht stays with you after the initial viewing. I remember feeling quite the same way as I was watching it, all while very intrigued. Once it was over, I couldn't get it out of my head and I am looking forward to viewing it a second time. For the next week, I tried teaching my students the card game, Nim. Quite entertaining.

yeah, what Dave said. Although I know it's just a custom someone made, I'd like to have it too.

I love it, but I can easily see why someone wouldn't. I think of it like a ballet, where the choreography is suggestive of its storyline without being completely literal. Marienbad uses the techniques of film making and applies them to a story that in the end is primarily subjective.

So to take that comparison one step further, we know that Swan Lake is about a swan and a witch and true love. But it is the dancing and the music that we go to see. Marianbad is about the dance that is the film, not the storyline. I think it is a trap to take it too seriously. It is about enjoying each scene as it builds this atmosphere. And in the end it leaves you with an unsure memory of this undefined experience, much like the characters at the start of the film.

Oh course, I could be completely wrong, as I haven't even cracked the special features open yet, but that is what I took away from it.

To me, it's probably the best Criterion blu-ray I own.

Thanks for the heads up jcs!

CG has been highly touting it, so after hitting the mark with Red Desert, I figured I would give it a shot.

No doubt neo...I saw this at a small theater in NYC when it first came out, but I got even more out of it on my last viewing this weekend.

It's lucky for all of us, that Zwigoff is an old friend of Crumb...otherwise, he may never have done this documentary with any other director.

I'm amazed at his talent, as much as I am about his dysfunctional family. For once, it seems to pay off being a middle child (like me ).

The unused footage is a really nice plus...almost an hour of material!

It's one of the best films I've seen. The first time I saw it was on the big screen. I then saw it the following night again on the big screen.

Needless to say, it's one of my favorite Criterions. It's a film that requires the viewer to have an open, active mind and buy into trying to crack the impossible riddle. It's a completely subjective and hypnotic experience.

As for November, my picks:

New Hollywood (we may just see three of the six films though...)
Night of the Hunter
Anti-Christ
Modern Times
Still Walking
The Room
