Well, technically, that would mean they shouldn't be accepting pre-orders, either.

That they were selling something when they had no copies actually on hand doesn't bother me as much as the following...

How can they possibly justify doing business with a vendor that they have no way of contacting?

It's probably just them who have no means of contact. Idk how many layers of people you'd have to go through to talk to someone who can actually contact them. I believe it would be someone in warehousing.

I'd strongly advise you folks not to hold your breath with Chungking Express.

Amazon is notorious for listing out of print films just to cancel the orders weeks later.

I know this isn't revolutionary, but I watched my copy of Dazed and Confused a few nights ago and I just plain love that movie. I think every time I watch it I become more nostalgic for my own childhood and am reminded of different interactions I had with people. The commentary by Linklater is really great too and I'm in agreement with him that movies like this have to be near impossible to make through the studio system today.

Remember that rumor about The In-Laws coming to The Criterion Collection?

?

Didn't he *just* release a movie like this through the studio system 2 weeks ago?

Some possible announcement hints over the last month or so:

-Richard Linklater posted on his Facebook page that the "Before" trilogy will be released "very soon" by Criterion
-Rene Auberjonois posted on his Facebook page that he was recording an interview bonus featurette for a Criterion release of McCabe & Mrs. Miller
-Criterion have posted restoration clips for The New World on their Youtube account

Very doubtful that they will announce all three of these on Friday because they are big name releases, but I think that almost certainly one of them will be announced, possibly two.

I'm not sure what it is that is unacceptable or incomprehensible about the way Amazon is dealing with customers inquiring about their CE order.

It isn't like Anket ran down to the stock room to make sure there are copies to send out. They are relying on their computer inventory tracking system which means they are referring to the same thing that you, the customer, are seeing.

It will take several inquiries about the same item before they question what is on the computer. They don't know Chungking Express from Panda Express, so if it says that it will ship, then it will ship.

I wouldn't bother, but that's just me.

Those are some low standards! If the customer service person only has access to the same information that we do, then they aren't being given the proper tools to do their job, and that would be a valid criticism of Amazon.

Unfortunately there is a bit of a systemic issue in customer service these days where reps are either afraid to, or trained not to, use phrases like "I don't know" or "I'm not sure", and instead say definitive things to try and end the interaction regardless of whether or not they know the information to be true.

Guesses:

A Touch of Zen / Dragon Inn (or perhaps just AToZ)
Linklater films (either Before Trilogy or Boyhood or both)
Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles
McCabe and Mrs. Miller

They sell thousands and thousands of items and have millions of customers. If he sees no reason to believe that the item isn't coming, then why should Amazon go out of their way to confirm that the inventory exists. Where is my merchandise has to be (and I won't guess, but I'll just say) a very large percentage of their customer calls.

Having him call the warehouse is not practical.

I'm 99.9% certain that I'd purchase all of those except for the King Hu films (I'd definitely rent the latter, though).

Also, as happy as I'd be to see your list in action, it's not very plausible because it lists an upgrade. We can't have any of those.

I watched Hiroshima mon amour last night for the first time.

It was my first Criterion viewing in months.

I really have no words to describe this movie... its unlike anything I've ever seen or will see again.

I recalled some other films that were made much later, that used romantic flashbacks (The English Patient), but this was an entirely different experience.

At times, I was completely enthralled by the photography, and at other times I was completely irritated by Emmanuelle Riva's French accent. I experienced a wide range of emotions watching this film, especially the very beginning with the documentary footage of a post-war Hiroshima, with bloody and radioactive Japanese survivors clustered together. Later, in the romantic portion, I recalled past relationships and adventures I had with women 'round the world and it made me a bit melancholic/wistful. There were also some very amazing visual shots by Resnais' cinematographers (Sacha Vierny and Takahashi Michio), and I wasn't sure which one was shooting which portion, but some shots nearly blew me away, and some bored the hell out of me.

There was a lot happening in this movie, a lot of subtext and history... a lot of mystery and intrigue... and isolation.

Quite amazing at times... brilliant... but not an easy movie to watch either.

You've had relationships and adventures with women 'round the world?

Oh do tell, James Bond.

I met a woman once in an all night laundromat in Denver.

We drank malt liquor and watched reruns of The People's Court on the old television set hung up in the corner ceiling of the room just above the vending machines.

We talked about everything that night.

Life and love and childhood dreams unfulfilled.

She mentioned that she was suing her ex-husband for child support and asked if she could borrow three dollars in change to finish drying her Dukes of Hazzard quilt.

At one point I got up to use the restroom and when I returned...she was gone.

Along with all my clothes and my peach-colored Member's Only jacket.

It was a painful experience, but I felt alive that night.

There's not a day goes by that I don't think of her and wonder where she is and what she's doing.

It was my own personal Hiroshima Mon Amour.

...by way of a laundromat in Denver.

Saw a screening last night of his latest "Everybody Wants Some." I know it's being marketed as the "Dazed and Confused in the 80's." I absolutely love Dazed and Confused so was excited to see this one. While I thought it was funny at times and I could see similarities to Dazed, it was not anywhere near as funny, touching, or memorable as Dazed. I gave it a 7 out of 10, partly because of the director, the cast and the soundtrack. The characters looked like they were enjoying themselves, there were definite Linklaterisms, but I think because it mostly focused on the males in the cast, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I was a freshman in 1980 so I could relate to a lot of the antics and the music in the film. I know it's getting good reviews but I just could not go higher than a 7. Even with that, I do recommend it.
PS: Stay through the credits

All you need is clips of Judge Wapner and maybe some still photography of you in that peach jacket juxtaposed with an enormous human tragedy like Hiroshima and you'd match the tacky-ness of that film.
