It's in July but don't hold onto that because it isn't officially announced, so it is not considered a schedule!

(OK, OK i hope everyone forgives me, I wanted to make a little fun too )

Did you include a little postscript in your signature about the 40% off sales, too?

As luck would have it, I was able to register with another county's library and I decided to check out their copy of El Norte, on account that I kept hearing about it as one of the greats.

While I think the actual filming and style if it is pretty simple, it does have a few punchy images. It's mostly the story that's great though, I find myself enamored by the characters and their struggle (which is great, since this kind of subject matter doesn't always appeal to me personally--I think it might be because no other movie I've seen about immigration really gives characters worth caring about the way this one does). It's pretty in-depth with the social themes, but it's an adventure on a similar level to a Steinbeck novel, and it is really good that way.

Looks like I have another title I'll be picking up on the next B&N sale. Next rentals will be more Tarkovsky movies...

El Norte is one of underrated/unspokem gems in collection IMO. A very real & touching portrayal of immigrants...

I just want to know a little bit about the B&N membership and the shipping rates. I live overseas (Australia), and I'm planning on ordering 15 items during the sale while having the membership. How much would the shipping cost, since I'm planning on getting a big overhaul of titles? I want to know as I'm saving up a fair bit for the sale.

I watched "El Norte" in my high school Spanish class. Great, truly heartbreaking film. It was senior year second semester, so everyone had checked out after being admitted to college. My teacher just decided to let us watch movies. We watched "El Norte", "Amores Perros", "Zoot Suit" with Edward James Olmos, Almodovar's "All About My Mother", and, last but not least, the Cheech Marin vehicle "Born in East LA".

Personal Shopper (IFC) and The Unknown Girl (Just picked up by Sundance Selects) look like excellent bets to receive spines.

I believe I heard that Wes has a contract stating that all his films has to be released by Criterion at some point, so whether you like it or not, it'll happen. Besides, Wes only made Budapest 2 years ago, so the time is ripe. And Wes hasn't made a movie since, so you can take a rest.

I feel the same way I just tried with his films and I know everyone is dying for the BEFORE trilogy to drop from Criterion but honestly I wish SONY would just release them and Criterion upgrade some DVDs to BLU. Waking Life felt like it was 4 hours long, probably one of the few who feel this way, and I know I watch a lot worse for sure haha

This list would make me very happy as well. Really hoping for "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" to be announced this month, "Short Cuts" would be a day 1 purchase for me, and in regards to "After Hours", I actually wouldn't care if it were done by Criterion or Warner Archive, just as long as someone releases it.

Hmmm... One of my first posts on this website was a statement saying that Criterion should release more Aussie films, and I mentioned this film.

Does this mean Criterion is listening to me and is under my command?
