The Criterion Collection

One of the likely releases for July is one of the most difficult films I've seen (Its narrative is even more complex than a more famous film by the same director) I'd love to revisit it again because it would still feel like a first watch.

Muriel would be fantastic, was waiting for MoC to upgrade it but sounds like that is a way off happening so Criterion will get my money.

Conversely, MoC beat Criterion to A Touch of Zen and Dragon Inn and already have my money.

Also, somebody mentioned Days of Heaven, wasnt that just an older Paramount transfer given to Criterion rather than one they did themselves?

Not according to the booklet. New directors approved transfer from 35mm IP. Also the reason the colors are different than previous masters.

My collection went from over 400+ down to 1.
Not sure if my wish list changed.

Mine is alright too. Still sitting semi-strong at 218 in my collection and 8 in my wish list. I had some issues logging in awhile back, kept rejecting my password for about 2-3 weeks and then corrected itself overnight. No idea what happened or why and neither did Criterion.

I doubt it. They've already said that

[Show spoiler]they've been working with Malick and Lubeski on their preferred cut, the 172 minute version.

That's a shame! I hope that Criterion turns around and gives us the alternate versions of the film in the way of Brazil and Fanny & Alexander. To this day, those editions prove very hard to top.

There should be multiple cuts included. Whether ome is the thestrical though, we'll have to see.

well, maybe the director doesn't want the theatrical cut to be released?
it's not uncommon for directors to not want some versions of their films out there.
anyway, it remains to be seen today.

Criterion said they've been doing a 4K restoration of his preferred 172 min cut, so that's why some believe it's the only one that may be included. If others are to be included, they'd have to go through the process of obtaining it from that restored version, no? If so, that would require a lot of work. There was talk of a completely new 4th cut too, so I could see there being the 172 min one, and a brand new one too. It would be great if it did include all though.
