It's the same

In for everything at some point I guess. That Night and Fog SRP is a really tough pill to swallow though even when appropriate discounts are accounted for. Outstanding month though.

It also doesn't seem to port all the supplements, here is the original release:

http://web.archive.org/web/201604040...-night-and-fog

$14.95 SRP

I want it but at full $39.95 SRP it's a bit too much.

BTW, I can't seem to find that new documentary listed on IMDB

Definitely in for Touch of Zen. I don't think MoC ever came out with the regular version like they said they would, just the limited edition.

EDIT* Wow. Interview with Hsu Feng and Shih Chun? And a Documentary as well, on King Hu? Wow. It puts the MoC version to shame.

Sort of like how Criterion never released that version of Blue is the Warmest Color with special features that they promised.

Couldn't they include it as an extra somewhere else?
Night and Fog also comes with a 99 minute doc as a new feature.

They should have combined the two Resnais films into a boxset

It does look like they fleshed out the package quite a bit from the previously released version. Nice to see Joshua Oppenheimer make an appearance in the collection.

Yeap.
it ruins a beautiful art.
Let alone the fact that it seems like we have 2 different aesthetic trends here (the renaissance-like (?) painting and the modern box-art) whose combination comes of as kitsch as i see it..
If that box was used on a more modern art, with some geometrical shapes perhaps, it would fit more.

I'm curious to see if there will be radical differences in colors between the 4K restoration and the theatrical version (which I assume is not 4K)

True, but there is no point now. Criterion is including interviews with the actors of the film along with a documentary. When the regular version comes out, the MoC version wouldn't even have the documentary. Just a commentary and interview by critics.

Oh, something else I wanted to ask:
Do you think we could buy The New World in the B&N sale? Will it make it?
What was with previous years?

It should overlap. We don't know the specific dates yet though.

EDIT: that box on the New World cover, it's going to drive me insane.

Looks like Criterion will begin sending a new releases newsletter, maybe that will help their site get pounded with people refreshing

I see they sent out an announcement email. I was always surprised that they didn't do that.

3 blu-rays and a book. No dorm room poster here. Robert Hunt's cover will look great on a digipack.

I'm also in for both Resnais films. I thought Night and Fog was never going to get upgraded so I'm glad for its release (and the bonus doc).

Great month.

Being in the UK I'll usually opt in favour of the UK release (especially with Eureka/Arrow), unless the Criterion release has substantially better extras (such as feature length documentaries) or if the UK release is barebones (however Eureka has the booklets which is a major plus).

Somewhat interested in The New World (I know Malick is supposed to be the master; I'll give him another shot having not really liked The Tree of Life much, although if it gets a Criterion I may revisit it, and I'm waiting for Days of Heaven to hopefully be part of the UK catalogue), very much interested in Night and Fog (although probably would need to import as I'm guessing it's tied up with Studiocanal, could be wrong) and Carnival of Souls (wouldn't be surprised if this gets a UK release.)

Good to see some of the early DVDs being outmoded finally - especially with something short form like Night and Fog.
