We're really going to add a slipcover to the list of things that make a release great? Wow.

Ewwww ... you're going to have Antichrist and Salo on your island? Well, don't expect me to swim over from my little stretch of beach and join you for Movie Night when you screen either of those. However, you are always welcome to float over and join me for:

1. Nashville
2. Night and the City
3. The Night of the Hunter
4. A Night to Remember
5. Days of Heaven
6. The Uninvited
7. Wages of Fear
8. In Cold Blood
9. The Innocents
10. The Lady Vanishes

And don't tell anyone, but I've also got five Criterion DVDs hidden in my backpack: Heaven Can Wait, The Lady Eve, Written on the Wind, Day of Wrath and Vampyr. Mum's the word!

It'll be interesting to see whether the King Hu doc is in HD on the CC disc. I believe the only reason it might halve been put on DVD in the MoC release is so they could drop it from their Standard edition without having to press any additional discs.

It can be BD or DVD, but no box sets/trilogies.

Also, these are movies that you've 1) watched and 2) are in your collection.

Here's my "Desert Island" list (I'm mostly into contemporary films):

1. The New World (2005)
2. The Double Life of Véronique (1991)
3. Wings of Desire (1987)
4. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
5. The Thin Red Line (1998)
6. Dazed and Confused (1993)
7. The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
8. Down by Law (1986)
9. Mulholland Dr. (2001)
10. Black Narcissus (1947)

I have to admit, this is a REALLY tough list to put together, because there are at least another 15-20 movies I feel are essential as "Desert Island" discs, but in the end, the movies I chose are ones I see myself revisiting time and time again, whether its zany comedy, emotional drama or just plain re-watchable, at least for me.
My list

The Game
12 Angry Men
The Vanishing
The Royal Tenenbaums
8 1/2
Paris, Texas
In the Mood for Love
Rushmore
Wings of Desire
Curious Case of Benjamin Button

It seems like you may have missed the point he was trying to make, and instead, focused on one of your personal hot button topics.

I might join for the movie, but I wouldn't stay for dinner.

I actually watched Salo for the first time last night since my wife is out of town and I thought it would be kind to spare her the experience. I'm glad I watched it, and am enjoying the supplements, but like most others I don't know that I'll ever watch it again

Forgive me, but I'll include films too that aren't in my collection because I only have 18 Criterion so far. Also I'm not sure if these would be my desert island selections (I would like to enjoy more myself with action, sci-fi etc. films than being depressed alone which some of these films make me).I just consider them my top 10 Criterion:

The Thin Red Line
Il Sorpasso
All that Heaven Allows
A Room with a View
Three Colors: Rouge
The Big Chill
Summertime
Magnificent Obsession

Hmm. OK, 8, can't think of something else right now..

Has anyone else received their Code Unknown replacement disc yet?

I received mine sans warning last week and was pleasantly surprised.

You can during the B&N sale if you use one of the many coupons that are offered during the sale periods. I've bought several Criterions for around that price range using B&N 20% off coupons during the sale.

Surprisingly this is not necessarily the order of my favorite Criterion films, but what I would actually want to see over and over again on an island.

My list would be:
1. Seven Samurai
2. Tokyo Story
3. Apu Trilogy (a slight cheat)
4. Don't Look Back
5. The Great Dictator
6. Wild Strawberries
7. Limelight
8. High and Low
9. Make Way for Tomorrow
10. Rushmore - to lighten things up

I would opt for more life reflective films than personal favorites. Several in my top 25 of all time probably would not make the cut: Persona, Bicycle Thieves, Mulholland Drive, Paris, Texas, Harold and Maude.

You should pick actual reflective films to assist with signaling a plane!

Airplane is my #11 film of all-time, but unless it is a supplement I don't think it is anywhere in the collection.

There was some obvious dropped frames during a scene early in the film. I think the scene where the black kid confronts the white one on the street.
