Cat People would be great. Curse of the Cat People would be even better. Blu-rays of that entire Val Lewton DVD set would be sensational.

The Val Lewton Horror Collection is one of the shining jewels of my DVD years, and I've love to upgrade those films.

Nope. I love them. I have nearly 40 DigiBooks, and I'm not sure offhand how many DigiPaks I have from Criterion. I'd guess 16. I only buy movies I really like, or think I will like. But if I have a choice between a regular release, or a booklet release, I'll choose the latter.

the clue seems so detailed with the humans that I keep thinking it may not be Cat People... why not just do a cat in human form ? the humans just seem so realized it seems like a clue for something else.

Ill guess Cat People since Criterion is able to get some Warner titles, but it's still under "unique circumstances". Criterion has their own remastering equipment in-house. They probably did some restorations for Warner in exchange for a few choice titles

Reposting this again. It looks like another one off the list. Looking more and more like all of these might be with Criterion

Dreams (Akira Kurosawa)
Blow Up (Michelangelo Antonioni)
The Breaking Point (Michael Curtiz)
Barcelona (Whit Stillman)
Magnificent Ambersons (Orson Welles)
The Asphalt Jungle (John Huston)
A Face in the Crowd (Elia Kazan)
Klute (Alan Pakula)
Day for Night (Francois Truffaut)
Before Sunset (Richard Linklater)
Cat People (Jacques Tourneur)
Before Sunrise (Richard Linklater)

Day for Night and the Before Trilogy have already been confirmed as future Criterion releases, and Whit Stillman has made no secret of wanting Criterion to release Barcelona so that's also likely.

I wonder if the fact they're sitting on polka dot chairs mean anything?

I thought they were mimicking the spots you see on large cats like cheetahs

Didn't notice the Joachim Trier video until just now. Is criterion releasing Oslo, May 31st?

Probably a stretch though - Cat People seems more on point.

Faster Pussycat was just recently released on bluray by Russ Meyer's estate, so I'm sure they wouldn't let Criterion touch it in the foreseeable future.

I do think it's possible that it's a Val Lewton set. Apparently the Warner set went. OOP the same time as the ones posted above

Wait, this is news to me. I thought Vinegar Syndrome and Cinelicious Pics were the only ones with their own equipment (outside of the major studios - Warner is perfectly capable of doing their own work).

by the way, I'd love that because the current Blurays are not good at all and i have such a nostalgia for this movie.
But of course it will be the 1942 version.

This would be marvellous!!
(but really doubt it)

edit: someone says at the criterion forum:
Quote:
For me it looks like the lady is caressing a leopard (and it might be one sitting to the right of her armchair), so it clearly will be an upgrade of „Bringing up Baby“.
but again, doubt it unfortunately.

Although I admit I've never seen a spotted (like the leopard) cat.
Only in google:
