Mulvaney must exist:

https://www.criterion.com/my_criteri...0-jon-mulvaney

I think he's the guy that deleted my comment when I requested a working link to a 70mm article in a Did You See This? selection.

My comment was posted, the link was soon fixed and then my comment was zapped.

He needs to work on his collection. Seems like he could manage to pick up some of those titles in his wishlist. I feel sorry for Mulvaney.

Even bottom-of-the-barrel Wilder is better than top-shelf most other directors.

With the caveat that I still haven't seen two of his first three films -- Mauvaise graine and Five Graves to Cairo -- there isn't a single film of his that's not, at the very least, entertaining. Even his last few films, which are probably his "worst".

Whenever I think about Jon Mulvaney, this is the first image that comes to mind.

Needless to say...I have trouble sleeping.

Wondering if tonight will be the night I wake up and see him standing at the foot of my bed.

...seeking revenge for all those rambling emails he was forced to read.

It basically follows a guy who works as a gas mask designer around his home on a seemingly routine evening. But it becomes much more than that. It's so weird and brilliant. I'd seen another Marco Ferreri film, "La Grande Bouffe", which I also loved, but his films aren't for everyone. I honestly can't imagine what the response to "Dillinger is Dead" would be if you showed it to the average viewer. Check this one out if your tastes run toward the surreal and bizarre.
Try Bye Bye Monkey for another dose of Ferreri strangeness. Everything that you say about Dillinger is Dead applies in to Bye Bye Monkey in spades. It somehow manages to be weird in about five different ways at the same time, no mean feat. I love this film, but for some reason I haven't watched anything else by Ferreri. I'm not sure I could take it

I've seen all of his American films except for The Emperor Waltz and Buddy Buddy. I've actually avoided the latter film for the same reason I've avoided The Odd Couple II -- out of respect for the memories of those involved. I have seen The Front Page, and that was painful enough. Not that it was awful, but it was kind of like watching Willie Mays in his last year with the Mets.

I would rate The Lost Weekend in the top ten, but not in the top five. My top five Wilders would be (in order):

Some Like it Hot
Double Indemnity
Sunset Boulevard
Ace In the Hole
The Apartment

To me, Wilder is the greatest writer-director of all time.

I'll check it out. "Dillinger is Dead" kind of snuck up on me because it's not as obviously bizarre as a Jodorowsky film or a John Waters film, for example. But after I watched it, I said to myself, "That was the strangest movie I've seen in a long, long time."

There was a time when I considered Wilder one of my favorite directors, but I've been undewhelmed more frequently than I've been floored. Double Indemnity and The Apartment are two all-time favorites, though.

Sunset Boulevard just doesn't do a whole lot for me for whatever reason and Some Like it Hot, IMO, is overrated.

I've liked everything I've seen by him. However, I'm pretty sure the only two I've been wowed by have been The Lost Weekend and Sunset Boulevard. I'm not sure how they'll hold up on repeat viewings.

[Show spoiler]He isn't always like that. He's a normal person, and he's ready to release the blu-ray of Le Samouraļ. However, he just can't go through with it. Whenever someone mentions the film on this thread, he's immediately reminded of the release and goes crazy, and dresses up to go and murder those who mentioned the film.

yes, the latter. the couple that I liked were so perfect that I expected to love all of his other "greatest hits," so to say... didn't quite work out like that.

still very good, though, for sure.

Just got through viewing Three Colors for the 1st time in a couple of years. That trilogy never loses one ounce of its power. Don't think I have ever seen life, in general, in all its randomness (both good and bad) crystallized so perfectly on film. Red, in particular, always gets to me.

I'm ok with this, only because I'm constantly skimming TCM. I was hoping that some of those same titles would be available in HD, but if I like a movie I see enough, I'm going to buy it, anyway.

For anyone who cares, the Kennedy Blu-ray release comes with a booklet and not a dorm room poster.
