From the CC's Instgram yesterday - any ideas?

Would be great to see A Woman is a Woman as that's been OOP for some time...

I'm not sure if it's for sure related to the first pic, but the Brooklyn Academy of Music (or just BAM as we call it) had a special screening of A Woman is a Woman and Q&A with Karina on May 3rd

Yeah, what a movie. I thought that There Will Be Blood was the greatest film of the 00s, but after seeing The Lives of Others, it's given TWBB quite a run for its money.

Great, not as great for me on a second viewing but still pretty good, I guess I am still a bit upset it beat Pan's Labyrinth at the Oscars , not that it matters anyway, it was the safe bet considering the subject matter.

I liked it, but its status as a "great film" eludes me a bit. I saw it years ago, so maybe I'd appreciate it more the 2nd time.

I met her last weekend at TCM!!!
I posted this on my facebook:

Tonight I got to meet legendary actress Anna Karina, just long enough to tell her that I thought she was the most gorgeous actress to ever appear on film.
She was very touched and in a soft voice said "thank you" as she reached out and lightly stroked my cheek with the tips of her fingers.
I wont ever forget that little moment as long as I live.
It was the highlight of the festival

Not everything Criterion posts on social media is a hint about a future release.

It's been a while since I've watched any good brain drain films, so I started Bergman's "Faith Trilogy" last night.
I watched Through a Glass Darkly last night and had to go back and watch the majority of it again at lunch today. Wow...occasionally a film will stay on my mind for several days, but Bergman is the only director that can do it every. single. time.

It may take several more viewings to delve into each character's struggles: their perception of life, of God, of state of mind, of relationships. At a short 89 minutes, minute for minute it may be one of the deepest films I have seen. I feel like there are layers upon layers that can be analyzed. On top of all that, the cinematography is breathtaking and Harriet Andersonn was so amazing.
Solid 9/10.

Can't wait to watch Winter Light and The Silence this weekend.

My guess would be another Godard. Possibly Le Petit Soldat.

that is very cool. she is adorable in all those Godard films from the 60's. she'd actually be on my short list of living actors and actresses who I'd like to meet.

Kim Novak grew up walking distance from my home on the nw side of Chicago and went to the same school that my son will be attending in a few years. she's never in town for anything, though.

was all set to meet Tippi Hedren at a screening of The Birds and she cancelled. that seems to happen a lot at public appearances that I plan on attending as PTA was supposed to be at the Punch Drunk Love premier some years ago as part of the Chicago Film Festival and he was..... "sick."

There is currently a flash sale at zavvi.com

Sale ends midnight London time, which means 7:00 PM for us here on the East Coast. The Carl Theodor Dreyer Collection is currently selling for, in UK currency, L28.99. If you use today's exchange rate and add in the shipping charge the final price should come out to a little over $42. For that you get four blu-ray masterpieces: Master of the House / Day of Wrath / Ordet / Gertrud all in a limited edition from BFI Video.

They're likely more interested in having digital platform rights than physical media rights.

Well, my copy of Phoenix is supposed to arrive on Monday. Cannot wait. I could have sworn that I had pre-ordered it, but apparently not. So ... I need to wait a few more days.

Well, anyways, it gives me time to finally watch Barbara, which I've been meaning to do for a while now, and somehow haven't gotten around to it.

Sigh. I would miss this, lol. I was just looking at that set yesterday, before ordering Ran from Amazon UK.

Thank you for the heads up, however. Much appreciated. You can't help it if I don't get my arse out of bed.

I'm going to add that to my quickly-expanding BFI want list.

Last week/weekend I attended the TCM Film Festival in Hollywood, CA. One of the many films I saw was Band of Outsiders. Anna Karina was interviewed by Ben Mankiewicz before the show started. I thought you all might be interested in seeing a few pics. It was a dim theater inside and using a flash was not allowed [not to mention that I was sitting out of flash range], so my camera had trouble focusing. (I don't own a smart phone, so my camera was my only option). Enjoy!

I Am Waiting has been my favorite thus far.
Oddly enough I just finished Massacre Gun & Retailiation from Arrow. After watching those and Loving every Suzuki film Ive ever seen Im defiantly picking up up the Nikkatsu Noir set. Jo Shishido is just so freakin cool!

well if you haven't seen A Colt is My Passport yet, his level of 'cool' will likely sky rocket. I don't know if he is in Rusty Knife, but he is ACiMP and Cruel Gun Story.

just checked.. he has a credit in Rusty Knife as well, so 3 out of 5 in the Nikkatsu Noir set.
