Who here was complaining about the titles being leaked before the announcement date? I simply asked that if people were going to list these new titles in advance of Criterion's announcement, that they use the spoiler tags. I don't think that's being unreasonable. Some people, myself included, look forward to Criterion's announcement every month.

Also there are other type of leaks when an artist or director mentions a film is going to be released or it appears on the Janus website, those are ok I am assuming? I should mention that is a big part of why this thread is so interesting to me and I try to read every post, to get the latest news (official or not) on which titles are going to be released by Criterion. Just watched Witness for the first time in years, and I have to say, this is a great Peter Weir film. At times some of the pastoral Amish scenes remind me of Days of Heaven. I'd love to see this in the Criterion Collection. It's too bad the 2015 Warner blu-ray release has subpar video and absolutely zero supplements... it needs a fresh new 4k transfer and a Criterion release. And while we're at it, how about an upgrade of The Last Wave too (a totally mysterious and interesting drama).
And by the way, if we ever had a Peter Weir Criterion box set, I'd prob. die from sheer joy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm not so crazy about it , but it has a certain charm that draws me. Also, please, Mosquito Coast! ![]() (and Gallipoli with corrected audio) edit: Just saw this post: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...0&postcount=22 Quote:
Would you sell it? (i'm mostly addressing to people who don't need to own every single Criterion release, even if there are better transfers out there) i generally don't like having 2 Blurays of the same film in my collection. of course there are the extras, but I'm mostly interested in the film. Also, do you think that when the Cohen Bluray does get released, the Criterion one will still have some value? I mean the Criterion release of The Third Man still has some value, although there is a better transfer out there, doesn't it? Last edited by filmmusic; 05-16-2016 at 08:59 AM. |

That's a completely different scenario. If an actor or director says, "looking forward to seeing the finished release of ____, which Criterion is distributing in three months", that's become part of the public record. It's unavoidable; people are going to be talking about it. What people are doing to figure out upcoming releases before Criterion has announced them is going to their website, and fishing for URLSs. That's information that has not been released to the public. I don't see the issue with waiting another one to two days, at most, to discuss them after the announcement has been made. Then everybody can do so to their heart's content, and the announcement a lot of people have been waiting a month for isn't spoiled.

Not until we have more Aussie films in the Collection. We only have Picnic at Hanging Rock and Breaker Morant in the Collection, why aren't our comedies in the Collection as well? As someone mentioned a page or so ago in this thread, The Castle should be in the Collection. True that. Sure, Peter Weir has made great films, but The Castle has inspired at least dozens of sayings in our Aussie society today. Not only that, this film has been treated poorly thanks to Miramax, who hasn't released the film outside a DVD released more than a decade ago.

Not Criterion related, but I would recommend this Greek film to film lovers (I think I had mentioned it in the past too, but now there's a review with screenshots):
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-r...ia_blu-ray.htm My Criterion related comment is that I hope Criterion could release at least ONE Greek film in the collection. There are so many great old Greek films (and worldwide acclaimed too) and I don't understand why Greece is not represented at all in the collection. |

Here's hoping for Gaslight with the Bergman doc as an extra.

Honestly, I don't have any anticipation at all since we know now the titles, unless they include an upgrade and I'm looking forward to find out what that upgrade may be.
