But we haven't figured out the new spines yet! Titles, yes; spine numbers, no. There are still things to learn from the official announcements.

(This post has nothing to do with anything in the Criterion thread.)

Wouldn't be surprised if Criterion added a release last minute like they did with last few announcements - even though we found the release they still got us last minute with films like Dr Strangelove.

I would be pretty surprised if they released that as a standalone.

It does seem like newletter clues get added last some of the times. Perhaps Cat People could be announced too (thiugh Oct. is more logical)' Lately the newsletter clue titles have been announced pretty close to the month they're revealed.

Normally I would say that the Arrow Bluray has much better encoding and compression than the Criterion release, but I'm not saying it, because probably I'll get bashed for saying anything remotely negative about a Criterion release.

Powaqqatsi was merely alright and I honestly didn't care for the approach taken in Naqoyqatsi. My criticisms and lack of interest in these films, however, could be due to my strong infatuation with Koyaanisqatsi, which I easily consider one of the greatest films of all-time. Like, Top 10 maybe.

I don't really disagree with any of that, but I think I would still want the supplements on the other discs, some of which are about the whole trilogy.

If you're region free, you should get the Arrow version of Koyaanisqatsi. It doesn't have the crappy compression issues that the Criterion has, plus it has a LPCM track, which I personally prefer to the DTS. The Criterion beats it in extras though.

Speaking of the LPCM track, I've noticed that at one point of Arrow's DTS track for Powaqqatsi, there's an error, like a distinct skip in the music. But when I switch to the LPCM track, the error isn't there and the music goes smoothly. I wonder if the same error is present on the one and only DTS track the Criterion release of Powaqqatsi has.

And by the way, why aren't there more films like Koyaanisqatsi? Home would've been pretty good if they just let it breathe like Koyaanisqatsi and didn't ruin it with the narration by Glenn Close.

On the subject of audio, I have a general question (that I've had for a while) and hope someone could answer for me.

What's with different audio tracks? What makes one better than the other? Why isn't there one default track for a specific movie?
