That McCabe artwork is glorious! All time great Criterion art territory

I had kind of a different reaction.

It's not bad, but doesn't really do much for me.

...I would've preferred a darker color scheme and Julie Christie to be included in some way.

I'm definitely in for Woman in the Dunes and Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words. I've only seen two Altman films, Gosford Park and 3 Women, and I really enjoyed the former but felt the latter was very boring (I much prefer Bergman's Persona); I've checked out The Player from the library, though, so I'll have to see if I warm up to that film. Though, I do like Julie Christie, so at least McCabe & Mrs. Miller will get a rental. I like Welles' films, but I've never felt it was necessary to own any of them. And, I've never heard of A Taste of Honey, but it looks interesting.

Similar to the David Lean and BBS Story sets seems like Criterion is taking the popular titles and breaking them out. Profit scheme.
The reason for the box gone OOP should be because they lost the rights to one or two films in the box, just like the Orphic Trilogy. At least Criterion is breaking the box up and releasing what they can, so that's a good thing.

Very intrigued by McCabe which I've never seen. Would like to see the British film and The Immortal Story w/ subs and a nice transfer.

Halfway through my second viewing of 3 Women on Netflix. The PQ is pretty lousy but the film is quite a trip. Need to see more Altman though.. I recall trying Gosford Park (either that or Prairie Home Companion) and not liking it at all.

Wow. That's that awesome they are doing Woman in the Dunes. Never expected to see them release a Teshigahara in BD. Just fantastic! Also glad they didn't change the cover art. The one they had was perfect.

Also, it's great to see the 4 supplemental short films. If anyone hasn't, and they have the the DVD set, they should watch one of the short films he made called Ako. It's an excellent piece of work.

Immortal Story is so so, but Chimes is an excellent film.

McCabe is a big announcement. I hope they don't clean it up too much.

Chimes At Midnight has been arguably my most anticipated Blu Ray release of all-time…to get The immortal Story in the same month…well, everybody, I won't need stimulation for months.

Woman in the Dunes is a surreal experience not to be missed. I'll definitely add this movie to my Criterion collection.

Holy shit, Woman in the Dunes!!! One of the greatest and most unforgettable films ever made. Now, I can finally cross it off my wish list.

Come on, Criterion. The Circus and The Decalogue next!

McCabe & Mrs. Miller is the only one for me. But kudos to Criterion for a fantastically varied selection once again.

I'm going to get the Welles movies for sure. I was hoping they'd add Othello and MacBeth and make it a Shakespearean-themed box set (Shakespeare 400 years in 2016, Welles 100 years in 2015, it all just came together so well in my head), but I'll take what I can get.

Woman in the Dunes!

Yes, well it sure pleased me! Now that this blog has figured out a way to receive announcements ahead of time, the "upgrade" has suddenly become the biggest announcement! Bravo for Criterion, if they came up with this marketing ploy!

In addition, I will be purchasing McCabe and Mrs. Miller and Chimes at Midnight.

Great month! GREAT MONTH!!

...and this is certainly looking like a phenomenal year!

Is Woman in the Dunes anything like In the Realm of the Senses? What exactly makes it so good that it is highly regarded?

Someday there will be a Boyhood version like other Linklater films. Hopefully, there will be announcement sometime this year.

I'm just saying that the scarcity isn't due to it being oop, which means Criterion should still hold the rights to all 3 films.
