I'll go one further and speculate that these will never get individual releases through Criterion. I suspect that after a year or two Sony will release a couple of the more famous ones (The Last Picture Show in particular) on their own. Heck, Easy Rider has already been available for a year.

From Criterion's Web Page.

Look at "The Atomic Submarine". It's spine number is 366. The old Criterion web page displayed this on the top of the page. The new Criterion site doesn't because it's part of a box set. (If you list all titles, it doesn't even show up. The listing jumps from 364 - 369)

But all the assets on the page are still labeled 366. Like (for example) this picture

titled Film_366w_AtomicSubmarine.jpg

The new Criterion site is a little lazy on listing spine numbers for box set titles.

Likewise, the discs in the BBS set don't have their spine numbers listed boldly on the page, but they're assets are the same.

The name of this file is Film_545w_EasyRider.jpg

So when they announce their titles in December, they will start up again with 551.

Criterion has never had a consistant record with how they number box sets. Sometimes the whole box has a number. Sometimes the titles inside, and sometimes both.

The photos on the individual pages for each release have the spine number in the file name.

Dear God. These next few months are gonna be EXPENSIVE. I'm almost hoping I hate the December releases.

Has anyone seen the more obscure titles (at least to me) in the BBS boxset, like Drive, He Said, or A Safe Place? If so, care to share some insight? Are they good, or are they in there just to round out the set?

I can't believe The Monkee's "Head" is coming to Blu-ray!!! Such an underappreciated psychadelic trip of a movie. I only hope it gets a separate release at some point.

I have been without the internet for 5 days or so..... just checked the announced titles..... this wasn't one of them (by Criterion at least)

Are there other hints out there I missed out on? (I've probably missed out on a lot)

In Criterion related news...... many 'freaks' were pretty amused by my "Hausu" shirt at the Phish show

So excited for the November releases, especially NIGHT OF THE HUNTER!!!

Considering purchasing that and the BBS box direct from Criterion as a thank you...but also want to wait for the sale and the holidays (presents) to save money...

Head is in the BBS/New Hollywood set.

I was without the internet for 2 1/2 days, so you beat me.

Loved the November titles. Modern Times coverart, especially, is absolutely stunning.

I'd like to pull the trigger on a region free BD player as well.

I haven't, but I wouldn't say they are in there to round out the set.

BBS Productons (Bob Rafelson, Bert Schneider, and Steve Blauner) had:

The Last Picture Show
Five Easy Pieces
A Safe Place
The King of Marvin Gardens
Drive, He Said

Hearts and Minds (which isn't in the set, released by Criterion already).

Bob and Bert had a production company (Raybert Productions) co-produced Easy Rider and was involved with The Monkees.

So long story short, some of these films caught on (Five Easy Pieces, Easy Rider, Last Picture Show) but all were made with the same intentions. One was not better than the other.

Pass on the November titles for me, though it's kind of a relief since there's going to be so much in the months before that.

Sure will. Guys on here told me about cheap dvd players for Masters of Cinema dvds. So if you find a good blu one, I'll check around too.
