Those are all rumored, or coming eventually but not officially announced yet, releases (except The Three Colors Trilogy, which has already been out a few years).

I am in the process of adding films that have either long been rumored as a wish list title, such as The Passion of Joan of Arc, or have been confirmed by a studio executive or someone else, such as Mishima or Nanook of the North.

The last round of releases (Taste of Honey, McCabe, Chimes @ Midnight etc) are listed on Bluray.com as new covers before the announcement.

I love the opening shots, where we're zoomed in on one grain of sand and then it zooms out shot-by-shot until we see the entirety of the dunes. Great camerawork in that film.

Because myself and another member did some inside research on the Criterion website and stumbled across them the day before.

Anyone here a big fan of The Human Condition by Kobayashi?

I'm considering making a cash/title trade for it, but it's a blind buy.

I love me some Kobayashi, but 9 hours is a different beast altogether.

And it's a dvd.

He's asking for one title plus $20.

Seems like a fair offer, but I've been trying to save as many dead presidents as I can for the July sale.

Can someone try to sway me either way?

...knowing that a man's life hangs in the balance.

Absolutely inexcusable to be a member on here and not have a region free player.

I'm with ya there. Owning a region free player would open up the spending floodgates. I'll wait for a film to be released here.

When I hear people say: "Owning a region-free player opens up an entire new world..."
I know they mean: "Go ahead and financially shoot yourself in the head."

I'm afraid to go down that rabbit hole.

The Human Condition starts off fairly poorly but gets better as it goes along. At the beginning of the film Kobayashi is merely a talented journeyman director, but by the end he becomes a master.

So if you want to own the film where Kobayashi literally comes of age before your very eyes, The Human Condition is a must see.

But...you still have to sit through the early part of the film which can be a slog for a few hours.

Same here, to all of the above.

That and the fact that my still-unwatched stack of Region A Blu-rays is impressive enough as it is.

Sooner or later, everything that I want will be available on these shores.

Besides, I'm not going to go to the poorhouse just to buy some Region B Arrow Blu-rays that have marginally better screenshots than my Scream Factory Blu-rays.

With region free, there are times, that when a title is already out in both regions, you can save money by getting the UK release, the new Keaton shorts collection for example, Man with a Movie Camera set or Chaplin Mutual shorts, or pretty much any title that has overlap with Criterion or Twilight Time if you wait for sales.

I have been a happy man since purchasing my Region-free player!

Yes, I have made a lot of purchases, but in making them, I have been even stingier than ever.

I always wait for a sale to make a purchase, never buying anything "day one" unless a retailer (like Deep Discount's last 25% off sale coupled with one of their "deal grabber" sales to purchase both Too Late for Tears and Woman on the Run for $26 each) has an incredible offer.

Zavvi.com seems to have a lot of flash sales and I have made such international purchases through them.

I'm not so sure about the part that I made bold. Being a bit of an anglophile, I'm fairly sure that stuff that sells well - films for which there is a market in the UK, will not ever be released here. Same goes with some French films.

Speaking of being an anglophile and not CC related... The Stone Roses have a new song. For anyone who is a fan, check it out. After one listen, you'll be past the excitement that "The Stone Roses have a new song!!" because it is pretty awful.

I've a big stack of unwatched Region A but it didn't stop me from going region-free recently for both BD and DVD because...to your second point, I've little confidence that many titles I want will ever be released here. These fall into two categories:

1. Major titles that inexplicably have not had a US release, e.g., The Ipcress File and The Italian Job (big Michael Caine fan ).

2. Titles from my youth that are probably too obscure and/or too "British" to ever warrant a US release, e.g., The Man Who Haunted Himself, or the classic BBC sci-fi series Blake's 7.

I legit think it might be the best film ever made.

Been watching a ton of Bresson this week for work. I've seen A Man Escaped countless times but the tension still gets me every time.
