Considering I just bought the Criterion DVD of The Fallen Idol within the last couple of months, I'd say the chances are very good. And, you guys are welcome

Film Forum is currently screening The Fallen Idol, among other Carol Reed films. I'm not entirely sold on it being a clue for that (in addition to Valley of the Dolls), but if they have worked out a new deal with SC, then that could open the gates to others like Ran, and The Third Man.

Possibly they're going to separate it into discrete BD and DVD sets.

Up until very recently (at least as recently as the last announcements) it had the "this title is not out of print, but it is not currently available at Criterion.Com" message.

I see. I know it hasn't been sold anywhere for a while, and prices on ebay, etc.. have been crazy

Besson rules. Good news.

BTW, and I know this has nothing to do with films or anything, but I think it's just weird. I live in the city, less than two blocks from the Detroit City border. A deer is living in my backyard. Apparently she gave birth in my neighbor's yard, and she wants to stay away, as to not draw predators -- of course there haven't been predators in SE Michigan for hundreds of years, but she doesn't know that. And wow is she big. You have to stay away from her. She's hidden her fawns in the neighbor's tall grasses.

It's just weird walking out to have a cigarette, and there she is, on the other side of the lawn, just looking at me.

Not really Criterion related, but I was hoping Atlantic City might be one of the Paramount titles Criterion grabbed in their deal. Gaumont just out out a remastered version, and unfortunately it's been heavily sealed like most of their work.

Another home re-color timing job here, because it was NEVER this color in 1980. Such a shame.

I'd add The Tales of Hoffmann as well, if indeed they made a deal with Studio Canal.

I was just about to watch my Blu-ray of On the Waterfront that purchased last February. Low and behold my ps4 is telling me that I've got a dvd queued up instead. Looks like Amazon sent me the dvd Collector's edition instead of the Blu-ray. Me, being an idiot, just figured that Criterion decided to go with large packaging instead of the usual Blu-ray size. Heh.

Luckily I get to return it, which also works out because the case came with some corner damage.

Now I really wish B&N would have fulfilled my eBay order when they priced those Zatoichi sets for $60 each. I tried to purchase four, but the order was cancelled. I could have held them for a couple of years and made enough money to buy 4 to 5 Criterions at MSRP.

When I managed to purchase this during their last 50% off sale, I was later told they oversold it, but was planning on manufacturing more later in the year. I guess they lied.

A lot of people were told the same thing. I demand answers.

It was $40, well that's at least what I got mine for from them . I was ready to buy it for $125 or so during the upcoming B&N sale too, so this was an amazing deal for me personally.

Hopefully that's the case, I never really wanted a set with 9 blu-rays and 18 DVD's. Still, I would have gotten in on the $60 B&N deal if I knew about that.

As long as it remains on Criterion's Hulu channel (which is where I actually watched them) presumably that means they haven't lost the rights to it, so it could just be a matter of repackaging.

It's getting to be a LOOONG time now though. Maybe it's not a "rights" thing, and they don't want to bother since it's a rather elaborate package?
