I can't help but think that if Criterion' release of Pan's Labyrinth is imminent we would know about it long time ago and Criterion would likely dropped some hints themselves (e.g. cast interviews). We were aware beforehand of pretty much all their biggest releases long before the official announcements.

However, if Del Toro was referring to the Criterion release, it means that it's scheduled for either Oct. or Nov. as December is traditionally a light/weak month for Criterion and, in that case, an announcement is indeed coming soon.

We do know GDT is down, and Criterion also seems game. At the time of this interview in 2014, Criterion didn't really have much of a relationship with Warner, but now things are much different, so I think it's a solid possibility. The only thing stopping it is if Warner truly wants to do something themselves for the film's anniversary, which I wouldn't rule out either.

“You know we definitely have had that conversation with Criterion. They found a really good response to Devil’s Advocate and Cronos. It’s all in the hands of them being able to strike a deal with New Line and Warners for the film, but I would love nothing more than having that. That would complete the Spanish-language trilogy so far (laughs).”

Why not September?

Although October could be more fitting due to Halloween.

I've been told you can, but I have never confirmed with Criterion.
By the time I sold my used copies of Metropolitan and TLDOD on eBay, I only had to pony up about $20 for Barcelona. I went ahead and purchased the sealed Trilogy from B&N with gift cards I already had received.

I'm working on my list this week.
I'm sitting on $325 of gift cards plus I told my wife that is all I want for Father's Day this year. I'll definitely pick up all of the June/July titles to stay blu complete.
I also plan on making a decent dent in my remaining DVD titles. I still need 84 titles to be blu/DVD complete.

My goal is to limit actual cash purchases to maybe 2-3 titles.

He isn't. The two profiles, if they mean anything, are likely for two different films. That's why I also brought up

If the profiles were added without also adding a bunch of people from certain film, it probably will take a while before they announce something related, like when they added King Hu along some Russian directors, I wouldn't worry about the spoilers unless a title was certain.
