I am not betting on MULTIPLE MANIACS so soon, especially since Janus plans on touring the film starting in August.

Unfortunately, I am not, but I am watching it from home!! It's such an exciting time to be a Pens fan!

filmmusic, first of all, best of luck finding a new job.

The On The Waterfront package might be my favorite in my entire blu-ray collection. And the film, of course, is a masterpiece.

Of course, one can never really go wrong with Daniel Day-Lewis.

Definitely The New World (hope to see some screenshots and reviews before the sale ends), Only Angels Have Wings and in place of Fantastic Planet that I permanently erased from my Criterion wishlist I'm between Brief Encounter, On the Watefront and My Beautiful Laundrette.
Of course noone of these would be blind buys.

"Freebie and The Bean" (1974, and also with Arkin), though ridiculous, is a substantially more entertaining experience, as well.
I have to disagree...

The In-Laws remake with Michael Douglas was a waste of time but the Falk/Arkin version is a very funny comedy.

Freebie and the Bean on the other hand was one of the worst comedies of 1974.

"Once more we play our dangerous game, a game of chess against our old adversaries...the Criterion public relations team...."

I will renew my hopes of seeing Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles get an upgrade. How this fantastic film has never received a Blu-ray release...not only in the states, but anywhere in the world, perplexes me.

Today could be epic.
Pan's Labyrinth hinted all over the place.
Criterion tweeting on Kieslowski's Decalogue.

All this hype...announcements will probably be delayed.

Perplexes you??? Why would we need an upgrade of that film? Yes, it is important on a certain level... but an HD version of it is not something I think most people would require. It's a bit like watching paint dry. I don't need an HD version of that either.

I think you're being a little too aggressive and disrespectful to his post. He's merely posting his desire for a film he obviously and rightfully holds in high regard, and is surprised that it hasn't ben released on BD yet. There is nothing wrong with that. Criterion and Janus films recently screened a new restoration of it so it is very likely coming sooner than later.

Actually it's on my own account that I don't have a job this year, but I'll surely have in a few months (although it's something that i don't like at all and have to do.. anyway, sorry for the off topic)

Since I'm in a different time zone:
How many hours it could be till their announcement that says "sorry, we'll make the announcement tomorrow"?
Or maybe we got past this point?

They sometimes post that around the same time we expect the announcements, so about 6-7 hours from now

They usually post the profiles on the site a day or two before the announcements too, so I didn't think we'll see them announced today.

Why? In their 2012 critics' poll, Sight & Sound listed Jeanne Dielman as 35th in the list of the top fifty Greatest Films of All-time. Besides the well-deserved critical acclaim, it's a film I enjoyed immensely; it was unlike anything I'd ever seen, and I'd like to see a film of its caliber receive a proper high definition release, complete with all the extras that usually accompany a Criterion release.

If you didn't like the film, that's fine. Don't buy it. I did, and obviously a good deal of those who have seen the film did, too. So, please don't impugn my choices.

Not a problem. Let us know when you make your buy. I'll be curious to see what you finally decided upon.

I've always wanted a BLU for this title. Was so saddened when the DVD was announced and it didn't get a BLU. This was during the period when Criterion was not able to release all titles on BLU at the same time as DVDs. Dying for it in 1080! Jeanne Dielman is also one of the longest films that I've ever watched that actually felt short and at the same time I was glued to the screen.

I would also love to see Antonio Gaudi get a BLU release. It would be cool if it contained an isolated score track. (minus the festival music sections I always really hated those two pieces because it broke up the flow of the film)

Just to add to this, in response to a previous comment:

This is a blu-ray forum after all, what's wrong with wanting movies on the highest quality possible (not counting UHD).

Even if I want to watch paint dry, I would like to watch it with the highest amount of detail possible

Besides, I believe that film was recently restored or scanned, it would be a waste to never release it on blu just because the DVD might be fine.

It's a film that would benefit from HD. If it had been shot on VHS and a blu-ray wouldn't look any better than a DVD you would have grounds for saying it wouldn't benefit from an upgrade, but this post is basically a less clumsily worded "dont upgrade it cuz its boring and anyone smart thinks it sux lol."

My life would be complete (well my blu ray viewing life anyway) if Young Mr. Lincoln would be upgraded to blu. Probably won't happen, but will hold out hope as long as it takes.
