Zatoichi blu-ray only set also listed for September pre-order.

Wonder what the packaging will look like? Have to imagine they dramaticeally modified it for 9 discs vs. 27 discs.. but hopefully it still contains the same contents (100 page book, etc). I'm hoping it's basically the same artwork and general look, just slimmed down for 9 discs.

Wow...nice month and we still didn't get a few titles that seemed to be a sure bet. Good days ahead for the Criterion collector.

Keep in mind the %30 off is online only it appears, still less hassle to go through, unless you count possible shipping issues or damage.

So far, only Cat People and Night Train to Munich seem like sure buys for me. I'm a little surprised that the two Dolls movies weren't bundled together, but they both have a bunch of special features so maybe that makes sense. I don't think I'll be upgrading Blood Simple. I like it a lot, but I can get by with the current release, which I've had for years and have only watched once.

By the way, I found it pretty funny to see Russ Meyers described as an "outsider artist." Russ Meyers and Grandma Moses. Wow.

The book is mentioned in the Disc Features:

•New digital restorations of all twenty-five films, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks
•The Blind Swordsman, a 1978 documentary about Zatoichi portrayer and filmmaker Shintaro Katsu, along with a new interview with its director, John Nathan
•New interview with Asian-film critic Tony Rayns
•Trailers
•New English subtitle translations
•PLUS: A book featuring an essay by critic Geoffrey O’Brien; synopses of the films by critic, novelist, and musician Chris D.; “The Tale of Zatoichi,” the original short story by Kan Shimozawa; and twenty-five new illustrations inspired by the films, by twenty-five different artists

I find it interesting that they credited BLOOD SIMPLE as being directed by BOTH Coens when technically Joel is the only credited director on this one. I understand that it's said that the two of them basically share a brain while on set, but this is still an incorrect labeling off the film.

No guesses required when Criterion's site lists the SRP as $99.95 and they're selling it for $79.96 on their own site.

Umm...Beyond the Valley of the Dolls' trailer on Criterion's website is NSFW.

They both directed it, credited or not. Giving credit where it's due isn't wrong in my book

I don't particularly care what they put on the box, I just found it a noticeable decision.
