Pedro and Scottie – your endorsement and a very positive review from The Tooze pushed me over the top. I picked this up along with Hitchcock’s Suspicion at Deep Discount. They’ve still got their 15% summer sale going on.

Well, how does one define "watchability?"
I keep forgetting about the blood, gore, and sex because I didn't think it was all that distasteful. Similarly, I don't really think much of the violence in Drive or OGF. With Refn films, I'm more worried about whether I'll actually be able to follow the plot or if it'll just be a confusing mess. On that level, The Neon Demon is far more coherent than OGF. I used to be prudish about violence and such when I was in my early 20s, but I found it often got in the way of appreciating films I watched (especially zombie films). Nowadays, graphicness barely factors into what I watch and whether it drives me away or not--the only thing that matters to me is how the experience is, how compelling the content is, and how well-made the film is. But if [Show spoiler] bothers you, I can't blame you. It's just not what I meant when I said TND is more watchable than OGF.

His Girl Friday. They must have been reading when I wrote about it being much better than Only Angels Have Wings. It's not just a screwball comedy; someone has said that it's the first "modern" movie.

That Voyage of Time film looks incredible. We saw bits and pieces of this in The Tree of Life in the creation montage sequence but this is full blown epic.
An IMAX film like this ranks in a level of "must see" in my opinion. Every now and then my local science center (that has an "Omnimax" theater - aka "dome" design) brings in lovable little nature films in IMAX presentation. But this.... this is a must see at my little local science center along the headwaters of the Ohio River. Oh yes. MUST. SEE. |

Yeah, the drawing looks a lot like an Al Hirschfeld caricature. It would be really funny, though, if that was this month's clue.
