Hey Al, these are great picks.

If you really like Riot in Cell Block 11, also consider Olive's Try and Get Me!. It is every bit as good as Siegel's film, and the recent release is also sourced from a fantastic new restoration

Looks great. I'll probably be adding it to my next Amazon order.

And crazily enough, he topped himself with Pearl Harbor. Now THATS a camp classic, albeit the most visually stunning camp classic.

Speaking of the Visually stunning, I'm dying for a release of Zabriskie Point. thats the Antonioni that needs to be rushed to the front of the line.

All things i was waiting patiently since release until the next criterion sale to pick up.

My budget has room for quite a bit more, but i'm having a hard time deciding.

I'm considering dr strangelove, but i already have the original release, and it seems to be the same video & audio, just with different bonus features, so i'm having a hard time making it a priority to pick it up right now. It is, however, one of my all-time favorites, and the only kubrick criterion blu-ray that i don't have (not that there are all that many, but still...)

i also have a nice collection of kurosawa criterion blus. I'm missing high & low and ikiru. The others are all fantastic, with many of his films being all-time favorites for me. Should i make getting these two a priority? I already have ikiru on dvd, but do not have high & low at all, nor have i seen it.

Let's see... Kieslowski. I *love love love* trois couleurs. I'm also a big fan of dekalog and have the dvds and will buy the bluray as soon as it comes out. So, should i pick up the other criterion blurays, blind chance, and double life? I have not seen either.

I'm a big hitchcock fan as well. I have many of his blurays, including the 39 steps and the lady vanishes from criterion. Perhaps i should be picking the man who knew too much, and foreign correspondent (which i've actually never even seen)?

There's a few godard and truffaut blurays i don't have, and i generally like both directors a lot (truffaut more-so, personally).

Besides those classics and "directors collections" which i admire (i'm also a big fan of ingmar bergman stuff, but i already have all his criterion blus ... Coen bros, polanski, cronenberg, lynch, ... There are just so many!), i am a big horror buff.

If anyone wants to look at my collection, i think there is a link under my screenname here, plus you can look just at my criterion collection here:

Are Criterion's flash sales typically in September and February, or am I wrong? Wondering because I'm trying to budget and figure out what to buy now versus then.

Wong Kar-wai is arguably one of the greatest contemporary directors in the film industry.

Having been re-watching his Blu-ray catalogue, all I can say is: for the love of God, Criterion, please release another one of his films in the near future (like with the October 2016 announcements next week).

Weird question, but is Picnic at Hanging Rock a really heavy set? Might order it but it will go in a package to be shipped overseas. Is it like Scanners/Seven Samurai or much heavier?

It's heavier than those on account of the full-length novel included with the movie.

Heavier and thicker.

I rearranged some titles and snapped a photo to give you an idea on size differences. Because of the weight of the book, holding it in hand and comparing, the Picnic at Hanging Rock set is approximately the same weight as 3 standard case single disc Criterion releases.

^^Nice. I used to leave that much space for my blus until I started running out of room, now there isn't much room above the cases now.

Sorry to go off topic but I can not get The Neon Demon out of my head, I defo preferred the second half but was an incredible experience.

It's not a perfect film but it defo has some pretty mesmerizing sequences and I wasn't expecting it to have this much affect on me, need to go see it again! Only thing that really bugged me was I felt Elle Fanning was miscast, she's not ugly at all and looked very striking when in model mode, but to me I struggled to believe what the other characters said about her... and at times it felt like she didn't believe the words she was saying as well... but I guess you could argue that is her character and she is trying to put this image on herself and trying to believe it herself?

Would have been interesting had he casted Cara Delavingne? Not sure what her acting skills are like but she is talented and naturally pretty flawless in terms of her appearance...

The soundtrack blew me away as well!

I'm watching The Tales of Hoffman movie (please, NO SPOILERS) and I can't make out one bit of their singing. I got subtitles so I'll make do with that, but, just out of curiosity, can you guys make it out fine or do you have trouble with it, too? I can't understand one thing.

I watched Happy Together last month and would love to see it in the Collection.

I'm an odd duck, I know. The Passenger, and Blow-Up, and everything else that hasn't been released is fantastic, but Zabriskie Point...Man, I can get drunk off the style alone. The soundtrack ain't no slouch either (Pink Floyd and Jerry Garcia!)

I much prefer the two kino WKW films to the ones in the Collection. In the Mood For Love always struck me as a rehash of Happy Together...only with straight people.

But yeah, for the sake of everyone that doesn't own those two OOP Blurays, I hope they get another release too.

Happy Together is one of my favorite WKW films. But since I have the Kino editions of those two, I'd rather see Criterion release -- if they release another WKW film -- 2046.

Agreed. I recently watched this Blu-ray of Try and Get Me, and found it to be a wonderfully intense and hard-hitting social noir. It's a great film all around.

I haven't seen the whole thing since 1998, but I remember it being way to bloated and cheesy. Crappy film.
