No. I saw it recently for the first time and almost fell asleep. Really had to push myself to watch it all.

Oh, god... really? I think that's reason enough for being burned at the stake. The musical composition created for the film on the Criterion disc is far beyond genius, and the emotions conveyed through that film bring tears to my eyes.

2nd, You're right. People are excited for new movies and rank them a 10. But why have a top 250 then? It's obviously there to "rank" films. That way, that site is telling me that Inception is the 3rd best film in members eyes. Why not 4 or 5 or 500? No, it has to be better than #4 to have it at #3. It's a joke. I know it's a joke.

3rd, it's not just about "non-mainstream" films. I did list Five Easy Pieces and Rebel Without a Cause not being in the top 250, but every Pirates movie and Tarantino film looks to be.

And, "I know you get off on the whole anti-mainstream thing". Ha. Buddy this is like Night Vs Day with this crap. People can call me a film snob, but those people will "get off" on Will Smith all day and are more worried about film packaging (what's up Chad!). So it's opinions.
You are a snob. Not for the opinions you have about films, but the opinions you have about other people's opinions of films. If you just stuck to your actual opinions about movies themselves, everything would be fine. But page after page, you feel the need to take people to task about the skewed, incorrect way you perceive their opinions of movies.

No, IMDB's ranking of Inception at #3 does not mean that the majority of member's voted it the third best film of all time. It means it's a popular movie, and a lot of people ranked it, individually, as being of high quality - and the resulting aggregated, scaled value is higher than the aggregated, scaled value of other films. There is no even passable way to rank things objectively considering the fragmented number of users that would have seen any given film - so IMDB (smartly) just lets total votes as a measure of popularity factor heavily into it. This also conveniently answers your silly questions. Rebel Without A Cause isn't on the list, because it's not as popular as the films that are! Surprise surprise. That is no statement on Rebel Without A Cause's quality, either individually or in contrast with the dreaded summer blockbusters.

If you, or anyone else, sees the list as anything more than a popularity contest, you are foolish. Stop trying to impose your heavy-handed opinions about cinema quality on light, frothy, supposed-to-be-fun things like popular movie lists. Christ almighty.

OMG dude you just took the words right out of my mouth. Im adding you to my friends list . There are so many people on this site that think their judgment of movies are superior than others.

People like this get no respect from me and i hardly listen to anything they say.

CC
I saw it completely silent so I can't comment on any musical composition, and I got the emotional aspect of the film 10 mintues into it. After that I felt it was just the same face close ups over and over and over and over again.

Whoot! My "Ninotchka" and "Going Hollywood" covers are featured on David Ehrlich's article on Criterion Collection fake covers.

THE THIRD MAN
THE LAST EMPEROR
THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH
BOTTLE ROCKET
CHUNGKING EXPRESS
THE 400 BLOWS
THE LAST METRO
EL NORTE
LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD
THE LEOPARD

There still sold as digipacks. I thought releases from now on were going to be standard clear cases, but that apparently isn't so.

The first time I saw it back in college in the mid 80's I did not really enjoy it. I found it a bit long. I saw it again I think it was five years later. I was able to appreciate it a little better. It's not a movie I would watch very often. Last time I decided to watch it was probably a decade ago. I might be due for another viewing soon

Well the original flimsy digipaks that you mention for the first 8 titles are not being used for new releases. But ya, they have moved to a sturdier, much higher quality digipak for some multi-disc releases.

You know, I can't stand the French New Wave films that some people rave about. I watched them and I was bored to tears. And I've found that, just because it's a movie distributed by Criterion, that doesn't mean I'll like it. But I also don't understand why people get so excited about 95% of the movies they discuss in the "Normal" threads of this North America section. As I type this, "Kick Ass" is the top thread. Now, I wouldn't even consider renting a movie named "Kick Ass," but apparently some people like it. Which is my long-winded way of saying we all have different tastes, and we're probably not going to change much. But it's good to get out of your comfort zone and explore new things. I've discovered Pandora's Box, M, Steamboat Bill, and the White Hell of Pitz Palu by moving out of the mainstream. Will Kick Ass people ever do that?

But getting back to Joan... it might help if you say to yourself, "Dude, that's a real cadaver!"
Are you suggesting you can't be both? I enjoy mainstream movies and I also enjoy the types of movies Criterion releases, what does that make me?

I think M is one of the best movies ever made, and I cannot wait for other Fritz Lang movies to be released on Blu-ray. I like obscure foriegn films and big, dumb action movies like Kick-Ass (which I thought was mindless fun). This weekend I watched Ride with the Devil and the Expendibles and enjoyed them both. You can like movies that challenge your gray matter and those that harm it.

I dont' think they have ever had one. To tell you the truth, not really sure how Criterion feels about us creating these faux covers.

Oh no! The acting is well-done and the music is fantastic but it all comes down to if you enjoy silent films or older films. I was just in a debate not long ago by a modern movie viewer who had a hard time understanding how anyone can enjoy silent films or classic films, let alone John Ford films because he found them boring. So, it just depends on your taste in cinema, everyone is different.
