Wow, no kidding. Not only are there a lot of great films, some of the pairings are really cool.

Ed Wood and Plan 9 From Outer Space on a big screen in a theater full of likeminded fans?

That just sounds like a blast.

Same for a lot of them.

Went out at lunch today for another round of BN purchases. This time I picked up:

Sweet Smell of Success
The Manchurian Candidate
Only Angels Have Wings

Very excited about another Howard Hawks film. Made a big list at my wife's request for my birthday in August. Hoping to get three or four more before it's all said an done.

There was an odd thing about the trip, the usual lady that helps me said she was told only the ones on the 50% off display were on sale, which she admitted was odd. Luckily, the manager was wrong and they all rung up discounted, and of course she keyed in the $10 off $50. Along with my BN membership, got all for less than $50.

That's a very Latin heavy month if those all get announced! I'm very interested in seeing what the Almodovar title will be (if it does pan out). He's very underrepresented in the US.

If it's take, send a message to Hariseldon. I'm sure he can hook you up with at least one.
I tried codes from this thread. None worked. Maybe they had already been taken, but I kept getting message saying codes I tried weren't eligible for my Criterion filled shopping cart. I also looked online but again, no eligible coupons.
Also checked for store pick up, & it listed Picnic at Hanging Rock as being $39.99. With the distance I'd have to drive, & both stores being near on-going construction, I decided to wait. I ended up ordering Seconds, Salo & Rififi, none of which I've seen. So if Picnic restocks online, I still have a couple more to add to it to get free shipping. Maybe I'll find a coupon by then.

Thanks for everyone's posts. Looks like we're all getting some good films. I have several Criterion films & agree that the packaging is excellent.

Just a note about in-store pick-up. When you place the hold, it lists as full price, but they're 50% off when you pick them up. I was confused about that the first time, too.

I saw a story that the police force there was threatening to go on strike, right as the games were about to begin, because they haven't been paid in months. To my knowledge, nothing has happened-yet-in South America. I hope they get it together, and that security is tight.

Please, God, let me be wrong.
I saw someone on TV make a comment about the Rio Olympics potentially being the worst Olympics ever (not even taking into consideration that there might be some terrorist action). I turned to my wife and said, "Really? Even worse than the 1972 Olympics?"

Off-topic justification: Criterion released Kon Ichikawa's Tokyo Olympiad (long OOP) on LD and DVD.

And also for that reason, it can be found in Wal-Mart's $7.88 bargain bin. The first Criterion release I've ever seen in Wal-Mart since the DVD of Chasing Amy.

October means fans have to demand every release is a horror film or can be tied into Halloween in some way.

It's like when someone asks why is <insert name of classic> not available on blu-ray in North America. You must point out it's available in a very good edition in Germany or Liechtenstein.

Totally! Jazzed for that Nosferatu/Sunrise one.

I doubt I'll hit it up as much as I did Genre Is a Woman.

The Wal-Mart stores in this area carried A Hard Day's Night when it was released two summers ago ...

I've never heard anyone speculate about The Wall getting a Criterion (or even just a blu-ray) release, but that would be awesome.
On the other end of the spectrum, I know for a fact we'll be getting Pan's Labyrinth any month now, seeing as though we've already gotten cover art for it.
As for the rest, any of those would be great additions to the collection.

I just think The Wall would make an excellent Criterion. No speculation, but I'd adore it.
