I've seen very few criterion dvds at best buy as well which is truly a shame. They don't even give me an overpriced option!

(dazed and confused, fear and loathing, royal tenenbaums [only release afaik], the life aquatic [only release afaik], and maybe one or two more)

Future Shop is the same thing here, I never truly see them in stores, not that I buy all of them like so many of you. I usualy get them from Amazon.

I usually have to go to Barnes and Noble and usually one store in the area gets one copy. Really poor ordering on Barnes and Nobles part.
I usually hit up Fry's for Criterion. I wish Best Buy carried them so I could grab the RZ points.

I was actually surprised yesterday when I was walking through my local Best Buy and saw Criterion's release of "Days Of Heaven." That was the first time I've seen that one in a Best Buy. In the same store, though, I've also seen a copy of Alex Cox's "Walker."

For those interested, I saw "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button" blu-ray in my local Barnes & Noble store today for 50% off its $39.99 price. That'll essentially bring it down to $20 plus whatever your sales tax is.

Best Buy in Canada does stock quite a few Criterions. Just 2 weeks ago I picked up White Dog(for 22.99cdn) & The Hit(for 28.99cdn). Most are over-priced in $30+, but glad to see them hit some stores & not be just online.

I used to use deepdiscount for ordering them, but their shipping has made it pointless to order from there. Hate being dinged by customs on top of all that, so usually amazon.com is a good way to go for Canadians at the moment.

The 15th is coming up which means possible new announcements from Criterion.

Any ideas? I know we are expecting some titles like CHE to be announced and I am dying and hoping RED SHOES BD is announced... but there are strong rumors over on htf that Stagecoach is in the pipeline for later this year.

Love Fry's, but my local Best Buy (Woodland Hills, CA) has a Criterion section... doesn't have a huge selection but at least some stuff is there.

They have already released films from Truffaut and Kurosawa so perhaps they will go with other Criterion favorites like Renoir, Fellini, or Inagaki

One can only hope

"Amarcord" would be an obvious choice for its wonderful color palette. Personally, I'd love anything of Fellini's films with Giulietta Masina in it. I love that little lady!

Don't forget that starting tomorrow, Barnes & Noble will be having a 50% off sale on select Criterion DVD titles & some blu-ray titles. I'm not sure if this is in-store as well as online, though. Here is the online listing... it's already up and running.

The latest Criterion newsletter had a "hint" that I took to mean Stagecoach.

I just bought 4 Criterion DVDs from Barnes & Noble with their 50% off sale that's going on right now. I'm not a member, but the final price came to $64.01 shipped after I used the Visa link (5% off) and another code that takes 10% off your highest priced item.

Many of Ford's westerns took place in Monument Valley, so it really could be any number of his films. I'm hoping its Stagecoach though. It's my favorite Ford film, and it needs a new (and better) transfer. Here's hoping for the Blu Ray too.

Really great deals... I wish I didn't have just about all the titles that I could have bought cheaper... but nice deals I even have a member card discount. I even have the sets like the BRD Trilogy and THe John Cassavettes set. I think I have watched Opening Night so many times. I could watch Gena Rowlands write a book.

There area few titles that I don't own yet on DVD... but kinda holding out for BD releases... you never know what they may announce...

I am hoping for a bigger release month for BDs from Criterion for this months announcements.

At least we are getting Pierrot le Fou and Kagemusha.
RAN is already available on bluray, although only in a set.

I just want to tell you guys that when I send a request to have a new slipcase for Last year..., criterion told me that they planned to supply custom plastic cases for all their blu-ray titles:

"Going forward, most of our Blu-ray releases will be packaged in this new custom case. We understand our customers' desire for uniform packaging, and we are planning to offer the custom plastic case for all Blu-ray titles. We'll announce this on our site, but please feel free to check back in a couple of weeks."

Whether we have to pay extra or they just send them to you if you ask them, I don't know....
