Wish I could order the Blood Simple poster in the UK! Would look fantastic in a frame.

It's worth your time to seek out the rest of Lee Chang-dong's films.

I watched it last weekend too...It is a great movie...After the first 1.5 hours, I thought it is going enter my top 5 criterion easily...Things went a bit down after that but still a very recommended movie which is hardly mentioned by anybody...

and Jeon Do-yeon gives the best performance by an actress in criterion collection IMO...it's so raw/so emotional/so real...it's beyond what we understand as acting...I won't ever forget the level she took it... (she won best actress at Cannes for this performance)

Very vibrant picture quality...it's a brutal, sad & downer movie though...That did not stop me from buying another downer movie today (Cries & Whispers)

One of the best in criterion collection!!!

I can recommend Poetry. It has an incredible lead performance by Yoon Jeong-hee and a visual sophistication that belies its melodramatic subject matter.

I'm not sure I'd go this far, but the rest of his filmography is essential, particularly Poetry. A shame it's taking so long for another film.

Jeon Do-yeon's performance would probably be my pick for the best of the century.

I guess I have a similar problem like diskspinner, the film started great and maintained it for quite a while but in the end I wasn't sure I loved it.

Poetry on the other hand has one of the best endings, the other two I loved everything about them and would put them higher than Poetry.

I was emailed the survey a few weeks ago. I assumed because I also signed up for updates. Who knows how they selected who to send them to I just know that I rarely get included in these sorts of things, so I am feeling lucky
looking at the current selection of the filmstruck beta, it seems most of these films are on hulu already.

what also sucks is I don't have an apple TV or amazon fire so i have to watch it on the computer. I hope they expand it to roku and chromecast

I really, really, really don't understand the appeal of Short Cuts (and at this point, Altman, aside from McCabe and Mrs. Miller and 3 Women).

I'm in the process of finishing it now and this is undoubtedly the longest three hours of my entire life.

Peppermint Candy and Oasis are both amazing, and are available on Region A blu (though not domestically).

I was skimming the threads right before heading to bed and for some reason I read that as Peppermint Poetry. It made me actually laugh out loud and think what an awesome band name. I cant stop thinking about Peppermint Poetry now. Literally all day. Thanks Pedro : )

I can't believe that anyone could watch Nashville and not recognize the brilliance of it.

But I didn't really see the brilliance in A Brighter Summer Day.

...it's all subjective.

Yeah, exactly. I think The Long Goodbye is amazing too.

But I'm also a big fan of Popeye.

I just ordered The New World from Barnes & Noble.

This month's sale has been a roaring success for me, since I acquired...

The New World
Carnival of Souls
Wim Wenders: The Road Trilogy

I'll probably only bother to revisit the extended cut of The New World, since I've found that it works the best, but here's looking forward to getting into the Blu-ray soon.

I was a bit worried that it had turned into another movie, but was very relieved to see where it went next. It's such a refreshing movie.
Yes, her performance is absolutely perfect. Completely natural and what a range. Stunning.

I don't see it as a brutally sad downer movie though. I thought it was also really funny at times, and exhilaratingly refreshing. Glad you liked it too.

I asked Criterion about sending non-film items abroad and they are happy to do it - you just contact them with details and they will quote a price. I was going to do it for a poster but ended up going to the States so had it sent to the office there.

IIRC it was going to be around $30 for shipping a poster... I wonder if they'd ship their empty cases abroad?

My guess is that FilmStruck will be much like TCM streaming is now. They'll have a limited number of changing titles, including all of the Criterions that currently stream on Hulu. The catch is, if you want to watch The 400 Blows, you'll have to watch it during its viewing window, or wait a while until it airs again. If you don't currently have a DVR, you may want to think about getting one.

I'm going to cancel Hulu when their Criterion deal ends, but I haven't decided if I'll pick up FilmStruck. They'd have to be streamable on my Roku for one thing, and I want to see what their typical content is going to look like. A mix of Hulu's Criterion channel and TCM's content would be right up my alley.
