Ok, fine...

I got Brazil today based on your recommendation...you were 100% sure that I will like it...I will take the responsibility of what happens to you if I don't like it!!!

I ended up with 9 this sale. That brings my Criterion total to 68. Not as much as some of you guys, but I'm working on it.

PS: I vote Harakiri too!

Brazil is a sound 401K investment plan.

Branded To Kill is laying down your rent money on one hand of Roulette after a three-day cocaine bender in Vegas.

...or so I've heard.

I strongly dislike both Brazil and Terry Gilliam.

I did not like The Fisher King and did not have a good impression on Terry Gilliam, but saw a few positive review of Brazil in last few days...I was playing too safe this sale, so that's my risky stunt...I need to make sure I am in certain frame of mind before I watch it.

Anyway I got it quite cheap in a Buy 1 Get 1 deal...I know both Ray & you like the other one I got as part of that deal...which I did not like very much in my first watch...

All this love for Harakiri, I went ahead and ordered it. I remember I wasn't a fan of it last time, but I also remember it had amazing cinematography. Always good for a rewatch anyway.

The Great Beauty
I haven't seen the film in quite some time and I'm wondering if it have the same effect on me that it did on my first couple watches.

I've slowly but surely become a picky film viewer. There are a lot of films that I like, but I'm now narrowing it down to those films that I love and cannot live without. It's really difficult because I'm always asking myself, "Do I love this as much as Lost in Translation? Paris, Texas? In the Mood for Love? etc."

I rewatched and removed The Kid from my collection last night. Charlie Chaplin is one of my favorite filmmakers. I consider Modern Times to be one of the greatest films of all-time. I really enjoy his entire catalogue aside from The Circus. However, after four or five viewings, I still cannot get into The Kid like I can his other titles. Perhaps the runtime is too short to establish anything for me. Perhaps I'm just not feeling connected to anything in any scene. A good movie, undoubtedly, but one I can live without seeing again.

Think I'm gonna go for Kagemusha. In my shopping cart I've also got:

Thief
Moonrise Kingdom
The Fisher King
In the Mood for Love
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Badlands
Che

The first 5 are blind buys, I've seen Che and Badlands but it's been years

And this is my recent purchase, pretty stoked as these are my first Criterion buys in quite a while

I just love Brazil, the whole feeling of red tape, hoop jumping and ect and dreaming of something better hits home. Just an amazing film. It is also a great look at the trials and tribulations of making a film and not being allowed to show your vision.

Two that come to mind, though, that I enjoyed tremendously on both watches are Once Upon a Time in America and Heaven’s Gate. I don’t think I’m generally averse to re-watching anything that has a long run time.

I’m not much of a reader, but my favorite book is A Confederacy of Dunces. I mean, I was blown away - enjoyed it tremendously. Now it sits on my shelf and the thought has passed my mind to read it again. I’ve now forgotten the story, actually. …and I just don’t think I ever will as THAT would be a huge time commitment.
That book is tremendously funny and outrageous. I believe, sadly, that the author committed suicide at 32, and the book didn't appear until 6 years later. I've often thought what a good movie it would make, and I've just discovered via IMDb that one is in the works! I hope they do it justice, and make it as long as needed.

I'm in the camp of loving long films, even if I watch over two nights.

I love "Branded to Kill", Ray. It's like a fever dream. I think I've seen it three times and it gets better with each viewing. Seijun Suzuki was an absolute madman. I will say that it's a film that's better if you're not completely sober. Knock back a few drinks, smoke a joint, or do whatever floats your boat and have one hell of a time.

I don't think his films are quite as smart as what his fans think they are, but he has his moments. Brazil is one of them.

He is terribly inconsistent though.

No. The digipacks are always a tad taller than the scanavo cases, but it's not G1 sized. It's the same as other popular digipacks.

The film has been in development hell for decades, my favorite casting of which had John Belushi as Ignatius. I'm not holding my breath for a movie anytime soon.

Last year I saw Nick Offerman in a theatrical adaptation and he served the character really well.

My B&N haul is trickling in with a package each day...
However they are blocking me from ordering Monsoon Wedding due to being "temporarily out of stock", which is a cheap shot for not allowing the sale price and just delivering when in stock.
