Gilliam has every right to be happy that he got his way with the film HE co-wrote and directed (you know, did the actual work on?).
Who gives a shit if he was one of the higher ups, he made an incredibly stupid decision and just about ruined the film. If Gilliam had been wrong his cut wouldn't have ever seen the light of day.

I'd probably agree with this, but I think Limelight seems more honest because it's more of a self reflective piece. He couldn't have made it in the 30's.

City Lights and Modern Times are his standout silents. They seemed more ambitious and mature. The Gold Rush is extremely overrated.

This may be a dumb question, but do Criterion have a bunch of spare cases for The Third Man left? I own the digipack but it is not in good shape anymore.
